Mojang, please listen, I have many stacks of the glorious potato. I simply ask that you allow me to compress my fruit of the dirt into a block, just like how you can make wheat into a hay bale. This starchy block would make great decoration, and maybe you can cook it into cooked potato block? a great snack for the hungriest of players.

That sounds weird. what about "Potato n barrel? and you can carry it with you.
While I think this looks awesome and is a neat idea, this is kind of the point where I think it makes more sense to just stop collecting that item because clearly your input is way higher than what you need for that item.
I have had similar problems with chicken farms I have made. Eventually I have a double chest full of eggs, so I made a lever that redirects the eggs chickens are laying to a lava pit, rather than having them pile up over a hopper. I think there just comes a point where you have to realize you have more than you'll ever use and the means to get more easily, rather than having a new item specifically to enable hoarding tendencies.

I think it would be cool if potato blocks could be used like more available jack o lanterns, to add even more variety to light blocks.
