I used to play Minecraft a lot when I was younger, and I always thought it would be awesome to have a vertical slab. Now that I'm playing again, it's upsetting to see this block hasn't been made yet. It's so simple! It can place like a door, whichever way you are facing when placed, it places on the side closets to the player. With the new stone cutter, this block would be a perfect add on!
Mojang already said this [new shapes] was a dead idea.
2 different blocks in the same block space probably won't happen, though. Waterlogging is possible because water itself was moved to its own rendering layer, so as far as the block is concerned there's simply no water in the world anywhere (also, there are no longer any water blocks at all...just locations on where sources are placed on this layer).

So because it's a dead idea therefore the fact that the community wants it is irrelevant?
So far with how stupid Mojang design decision goes, i have a principle: If the community(modders) can add it to the game, there should be no excuse for Mojang to can't.

If that was true, then there would be (say) guns in Minecraft, as some people want guns in Minecraft and they can be added to the game. Are there guns in Minecraft? No.

Nice strawman. I never said that the community should have the absolute power to control what's added into the game. I'm just saying that with the idea of vertical slab is not only fit for the game but also demanded by the community so much for a good reason: building possibility.
Maybe off topic but Hytale has half slab, if Mojang doesn't want the game to fall then they should consider this suggestion.
Okay,
A. He said there's no reason Mojang can't, not that there's no reason they shouldn't.
B. Vertically placed slabs are quite easy to make. Case in point:

It's not a case of can't. Mojang already has all the pieces available to make this and even further shapes like sideways stairs and corner posts--vertical slabs cut in half--happen (albeit scattered across several places in Minecraft instead of already neatly packaged within one object). Putting these various things together into a new block would be absolutely trivial, even moreso than the somewhat more-complicated configuration that modded solutions have come up with.
It's because they don't want to. Some mojangstas think stairs and slabs were a mistake, not so much due to their implementation but because of the added creative pressure they apply to the average user ("I suck at building, lol") and do not want to compound this issue.
Look closer, those are a combination of regular and vertical half-slabs. The image was originally taken to joke about how even though the holes are bigger than a block light is still blocked from going through, and the slabs are part of my WIP 1.12.2 mod.

Thoughts?
I know especially with all the new slabs in 1.14 plus 1 thick walls with 2 different colors

My suggestions: Enhancements - Throwable Fire Charges - On Phantoms and Elytra. Also check out The Minecraftian Language. This signature is not here to waste your space.

Nice try, but stairs are not vertical slabs.

How about just shift-clicking a slab makes it vertical?
That's not lore breaking whatsoever.
