Hey all, I’ve come with some suggestions for new mobs that can be added to Minecraft. More animals makes the game fee more alive, and gives you more to look at when adventuring. They could also add some new things that enhance the journey!
Deer - Skittish animals found in forest and plains biomes. Females and fawns will run from you, but if there is a stag nearby it will be hostile! Deer antlers can be used as both a tasty treat for your dog and a way to play fetch with him! Sometimes, the dog may return with something else instead of the antler though. Antlers can also be used in place of sticks while crafting tools, making them more durable than if you used sticks (i.e. a “Wooden Sword +” will have 118 durability instead of 59).
Crabs - Found at the bottom of ocean biomes, crabs will drop crab meat that can be cooked and eaten. It may also drop its claw, which when combined with string and a tripwire hook makes a hook claw, which can grab items from afar! Hook claws can be enhanced in range & speed with enchantments.
Mice - Pesky mice spawn mostly in villages or anywhere with wood blocks, leaving holes in them. But when startled or killed, they can drop cheese! Use the wheat in a village to make bread and combine the bread with cheese to instantly make bread more effective as a cheese sandwich! You can also find cheese by breaking the block with the hole in it. Stray and tamed cats alike chase and kill mice, but you can stop tamed cats from chasing them by making them sit. If mice are a bother to you, having a cat inside the structure you wish to be left alone will repel them, though it won’t stop them from being outside. Use this to your advantage to make a cool cheese farm!
Scorpions - Be cautious when traversing the desert, you may run into a scorpion, which will sting you can poison you! But if you kill it and take its stinger, you can combine with your sword on an anvil to give it the Poison Sting enchantment! The stinger is a very rare drop, and the Posion Sting enchantment goes up to level 2.
Butterfly - Simply atmospheric. Killing it gives you a trivial amount of XP and the sad feeling of killing a butterfly.
Alligator - Sometimes found on the side of rivers, but found mostly in swamps, alligators are nasty customers, but slaying a few and gathering their skin lets you make gator armor, which lets you swim real fast in water for about 20 seconds! Enchantments can be used to increase the time you can swim fast.
Let me know what you guys think! I hope these mobs can enhance Minecraft if added!
These kinds of mobs have been suggested time and time again, but i'm not really opposed to any of them.
Please ignore the vocal minority of the community, they are the reason we didn't get penguins in update aquatic if i recall, Not all mobs need a use, there is ALWAYS a place for mobs whose main purpose is to make the world feel alive.
The poll is biased; as stated, None needs to be included (as does the option to select >1 but <all) for="" the="" results="" to="" be="" valid.<="" p="">
</all)>
In much of the OP, the description is more allusory than enabling This ought be fixed if serious consideration is intended.
Looking at the critters, all but the butterfly (which – as a defensless atmospheric – ought to follow the bat and drop zero Xp) include item additions (and all but the mouse related ones are significant).
Deer: doubles the effective number of tools classes along with the durability. This would have wood/wood, antler/wood, stone/wood, antler/wood, etc. tools. [Also entails sexed animals, which appear to be something MC avoids…]
Crab:depending on what specifically is included in "can grab items from afar!", this may duplicate fishing rod functionality or greatly expenad it. [Also adds (yet another) meat food to the game. All the standard arguments against new foods apply. ]
Mice: another idea that greatly increases the number of blocks as any "wood blocks" would need whole and holed versions.
[Also adds two new foods to the game. All the standard arguments against new foods apply. ]
Scorpion: The described method is at odds with current anvil usage as currently only books can transfer enchantments not active on the source item. [This is likely not a deal beaker in itself, as stings could simply be treated as a variant form of book.] Insufficient information is given, however, to judge how well the proposed enchantment (or, indeed, the base mob) would work….
Butterfly: this is the least controversial of the OP suggestions. It has been suggested in various forms (and considerably more detail) several times before. [Although the recent ie past year thread seems to have been memory holed by The Great Purge....]
Alligator: adds another armor type, this one with what appears to be a dolphins' grace variant.

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.
I have written biome update suggestions, and each one added new mobs. Utility, and ambience. So I like this thread. Some ideas I had were:
Hawk- once tamed, hunts for you and fights off phantoms. (Don't tell me this is useless because the new cat mob once tamed essentially hunts for you bringing you back random things, my hawk idea was posted before that was a thing)
Camels- actual camels, not reskinned llamas. Found only in desert biomes, can be used as pack animal or as war mounts. (History has proven that in the past in the desert, camels have been used as war cavalry)
Kangaroo rat- desert unique mob that will go after your wheat crops. Rabbits go after carrots, kangaroo rats go after wheat. Nasty ability to drain resources from chests also. Cats and hawks hunt them, tamed or wild. Serves a dual purpose. Ambience (little critters scurrying around, hawks and cats hunting them as wolves hunt sheep) and to perhaps make farming slightly less boring as now there are two mobs that destroy your crops.
Parrots are exceptionally useless. They look pretty, sing and sit on your shoulder. Literally serve no other purpose.
Their purpose is to sit on your shoulder and sing. When they hear a mob they imitate it, which is useful for locating caves in branch mines, as just one example. It's also good if something's sneaking up on you. Bats are useless.

They fly around too fast to hit with anything without causing collateral damage, THEN SOMEHOW GET IN THE WAY WHEN IM FIGHTING MOBS, and they sound annoying.
In fact, someone should make a resource/data pack that just removes bats.

Ok, people. Sometimes adding things just for ambiance, being pretty, or adding variety are good, and Mojang should continue adding small things (like sneezing baby pandas and brown pandas) that are 'useless' but make the world feel more alive.
As long as Mojang continues adding major features with each new update, is there ANY harm in adding things like this suggestion that add a nice atmosphere and some interesting mechanics to the game? I cannot see any harm, it adds interesting mechanics (deer antlers adding durability would be great, especially for late-game tools), so I have Full Support

You are SO right! Adding things that bring the world to life like butterflies, deer, mice, etc would be amazing. The fact that they added pandas gives me hope that they're going the right direction
I want to thank everyone here who supports this. As for most of the first few posts, I have to question if this level of aggression is allowed on this forum. For mobs such as mice the reason I even made up the cheese thing was because I saw people passed off “useless” mobs. Of course, Mojang wants fun, creative ideas, and mice and cheese are a cartoon logic classic. It’s funny that people say these mobs have no significance, as no mob added to the game
ever has significance without it being programmed to have use.
In fact, let’s pow-wow a minute on some mobs that have been added in.
* Tropical fish drop nothing useful when they die, they’re only really good for decoration when caught.
* Bats, of course, have no use.
* Nitwits have no use, yet I believe they were campaigned to be it in simply because dataminers found them?
* How often does anyone ever see an Endermite? When one ACTUALLY appears, it’s ever really a threat?
* Surely, there would be others to produce black ink besides keeping squids in?
* Ocelots ONLY use has now been taken away by stray cats. Still in.
* What’s the use of a polar bear? Tough as hell to kill, stalks you to the ends of the earth for getting near their young, and drop fish that you can CATCH with a cheap fishing pole.
* A silverfish simply exists too be annoying, and are RARE.
* Looking at the wandering trader, their trades are about as useful as the fletcher or butcher.
* Pandas have no use, but are a cool addition none the less.
* Once you finally get enough scutes to make a turtle shell (which adds another apparently infamous armor type), turtles are useless.
Yet, I’d get rid of none of them.
If you’re against it, please be intelligent about it, because in my eyes it seems that adding a few mobs every year to Minecraft has not made it feel anymore alive, and when i go on adventures I often see barren wastelands where other mobs can easily fill the space, use or no use.
I think it serves as an excellent reason why we should. Let’s take a look at one of the very first mobs ever permantely added to Minecraft. The zombie. Drops rotten flesh, which has so very little use people rarely ever keep a stock in their chests, only ever useful for selling generous amounts to a cleric for a single emerald. Rarely, an iron ingot. One alone is hardly what you call useful. A carrot/potato once in a blue moon. Unless you somehow haven’t found a village with plenty to spare, useless, if not neat to finally see one drop.
Husks drop the same exact things, and are mere annoyances that really, could have been omitted altogether by increasing the amount of zombies wearing helmets. Drowned as well, their spawn rates are insane and once you get a couple tridents for Riptide and Loyalty, they’re one of the biggest thorns in your side if you live near water. Changing their iron ingot to gold doesn’t make the ingot anymore valuable.
Let’s move onto donkeys and llamas. Donkeys are slow and hardly carry any extra inventory, and llama caravans are useful on such a rare basis because of the layout of Minecraft’s overworld it’s not funny. Mules fair only slightly better.
The point is. You all go on about “useless mobs”. Most, if not all of them are, if it weren’t for a single item that they dropped, and that can be remedied by making it available elsewhere. Your arguments are made moot by what is there already and what people would campaign to get back.
In fact let’s keep going.
* Phantoms don’t “need” to be there and phantom membranes fixing elytra makes zero sense.
* Pigs offer pork chops which offer the same food and saturation as beef, the only thing that sets a pig apart from a cow is your ability to ride it. For no reason.
* Chickens offer even LESS, with cooked chicken offering less food and saturation then beef or pork chops and their eggs making food items no one uses.
* Rabbits even LESS so, as you must use a ton of their skin to make a single leather and meat that offers less hunger/sat., and a rabbit’s foot whose use could have been applied elsewhere.
* You rarely, rarely ever see a Mooshroom without explicitly making an expedition for one, and even then leading it tens of thousands of blocks back to your base is unreasonable.
* Skeleton horses. Running under water isn’t as useful as it sounds.
* Pufferfish. As a mob, it’s useless. As an item, it rarely offers a useful potion.
* Dolphins. Why have them lead me to underwater ruins when simply having the world load or watching where I swim I see most of them anyway?
* Wolves. I tame them, bring them back to my base and they sit there. Why risk the dog I had to work to get?
This right here renders ALL passive mobs and phantoms useless by your logic. Sheep only screech by by offering wool and cows because they offer the best food in the game. So are you saying just remove mobs altogether? Or 95% of them? Because that won’t be making any new fans anytime soon. The only reason I don’t move onto hostile mobs is because I don’t feel I need to.
The argument of “it’s useless” is just as useless. No mob is actually useful by dictation of what it offers can be offered elsewhere. By making the argument that it “adds unnecessary items” you effectively make a roundabout argument to make the mobs useless which in turn makes them “unneeded”.
Minecraft still feels pretty lifeless. I still love the game having played it when it very first came out, but it’s emptiness persists to this day, and useful or not, more mobs can fix this.
I dislike the gator armor and the mice eating holes in wood. The mice eating wood would be annoying on so many levels and gator armor is basically just a combination of boats/depth strider, which seems unnecessary to me. The rest is pretty neat though, and I definitely support these.
Also why is everyone so hostile to this idea good lord. There's already plenty of "useless" mobs in minecraft, so stop arguing that every mob needs an explicit purpose in the game.
Phantoms exist to encourage the player to sleep. Also, their membrane repairing the elytra does make sense, because what else are you gonna repair it with? They're one of the few mobs in the game with wing that fly around.
They also drop feathers, which are required to craft arrows with.
What are you talking about, "applied elsewhere"? The Rabbits Foot is literally one of the main ingredients of a Leaping potion.
Mooshrooms have to exist. They gotta. No argument against it. They have to.
Wolves assist in attacking mobs. (Hit a mob with a sword while your wolf is with you and it'll attack/distract the mob, while you can also hit it. They don't do much damage, yes, but it's something.)
That right there also renders the original suggestion useless by "my logic".
Don't put words in my mouth, buddy.
No, the argument of "it's useless" is pretty useful in this case. What are you gonna do with cheese? Mojang themselves have even said that they're not gonna implement food that's been done by mods.

Chickens are an easier source of feathers

You can get everything a mooshrom has from a cow and mushrooms.
No, the argument of "it's useless" is pretty useful in this case.
No lol. 2 of the examples you cited are redundant sources of materials, both of which have easier ways to get said materials. There are plenty of mobs that are near or totally useless. Bats do nothing. Villager trades, depsite Mojang's best efforts, are more easily an cheaply found by a player. Endermites and silverfish are equally useless. Zombie drops are frequently worthless.
Responses in bold. There are problems with the suggestion, but utility is a stupid argument.

So why not let other, as you say, "useless" mobs in the game? Especially to help the game feel more alive.
The deer idea in particular seemed pretty cool. A new food source? A buff to durability? Those are actually quite useful.
