Hello, as a part of making the world feel more alive, I would like to suggest:
Booming Ecosystem
Let's say you don't have many friends to play with, yet you want your singleplayer world to feel alive? Wouldn't it be great to have your single player open to anyone that wants to join? Maybe buy some things they can use for their game? Like an awesome sword they can buy in your shop? Maybe these players that come in cannot destroy blocks, but buy things.
You can also perhaps implement a 'global market', and have emeralds more important.. Like if you quickly need 5 blocks of obsidian, and have emerald but would rather not take a huge amount of time getting a diamond pickaxe first and such if you have the emeralds already. Then the person that was selling them would get rewarded. Makes the game feel a lot bigger.
This is already available in a multitude of forms on various servers.
Whether by enforcement of various mods or simple social contract the 'Booming Economy' suggestion essentially IS server play/SMP.
Implementing the described idea would be impossible without a sustained net connection, essentially erasing single player mode. [Various issues with 'cheating' however one may define the term and contract enforcement/anti-griefing issues would only explode if worlds were "open to anyone that wants to join".]
This would also impose a one-size-fits-none solution on all players instead of fostering the many diverse solutions to the 'problem' of creating an economy on MC.
Far better to leave this in the hands of servers [as it is at present] and allow players top choose the sort of economy (gift, cooperative, currency, PvP-sword-right, etc.) they prefer at the time.

so ... making singleplayer "feel" alive, by not being singleplayer? that sounds stupid.
Is dark souls a single player game? It can be, but also has online elements that give you hints and you can summon players to help you. Still considered a single player game, no?

So, you are suggesting that Minecraft should have their single-player mode (which is specifically designed not to require internet and have their players be ALONE) actually be a multiplayer mode where people go into your world, by things, and then bring them back to their world where they can use them?
That would not only defeat the entire purpose of singleplayer, but it would unbalance the game (people would be able to get materials out of something they were never meant to be gotten out of) and make villagers basically useless because they do the EXACT SAME THING.
And what does any of this have to do with an ecosystem, which is a system of ANIMALS?

Remember those versions that minecraft pranked us with? Specifically:
Minecraft 2.0
Minecraft 1.VR-Pre1
Snapshot 15w14a
Minecraft 3D
Those are still downloadable! Watch this video for 2.0:
To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.

I think that instead of selling to players, you could be able to make a structure in a village and sell to the villagers (They come to you), and they basically buy the shop windows they have themselves without you seeking them out. I'd love to hear feedback, though.
Edit: I saw your other forum post, now, so nevermind. Strange how minds think alike.

I play single player almost exclusively, but I usually play in creative mode. This is because I focus on what I can create out of minecraft instead of how I can survive. I have experience in modding, so I know a lot of the code. If I ever do play on a server, I focus on a unique experience (like a minigame).
So, in essensse, I almost never play single player survival.

You do realise that people would just cheat stuff in to break your “economy”. Plus, this is absolutely useless when you are offline.
