To enhance gameplay, Minecraft should make it so occasionally the character trips on the ground (1% chance for each second walking, 20% chance for each second running). When the character trips, the character is facing the ground and cannot move until he/she gets up. The character doesn't get up automatically though. You have to repeatedly press left click until the character gets up. One in five trips makes you take 1 heart of damage.
This doesn't add anything of value. All adding this would add is damaging the player every few minutes randomly, with no way to avoid it besides not playing the game. I suggest you read this thread, especially the part under "Artificial difficulty".
Adding this would probably even make the game unplayable. Considering that the player is usually always on the move, this would mean they would trip an average of once every 100 seconds (every one and two-third minutes) at minimum, and sustain one heart of damage every 13 minutes. At maximum, they would trip an average of once every five seconds, sustaining one heart of damage every 25 seconds, or just under half a minute.
This would make sprinting completely unviable.
And that's not even taking into consideration that fact you need to take a few seconds to get up again.
Hmm.. Nah.. That seems kind of pointless and annoying since it doesn't present any new, real threat like new mobs do, can't be avoided, and would mostly just waste extra time having to get back up again.

Imagine HOW ANNOYING that would be! LOL XD.

I have played Minecraft since 2012 and I mostly play on JAVA edition.
I could see this being part of a combat revamp (one that added in some sort of system of surprise) wherein the tripping would only occur in very specific circumstances (ie, having gotten smacked by a mob/player in the last 15 seconds) or as a very minor adjustment to how the game handles moving into blocks (ie, if you mistimed a moving jump and landed on the block in front of where you intended to land, you might trip over the obstacle).
Within the bounds of the combat system, this could potentially make it possible to force a continuation of an encounter versus taking a shot, running around jockeying for position, taking another shot, running around some more, etc.

Redundant: random inability to move and random damage are both caused by Ye Dread Lag & Ye Olde Glitche Monster i various of their manifestations.
Given the "massive fun" these add to play, expunging such (not adding to the clan) ought be the action taken.
[Given the MS/Mj track record, would NOT suggest holding one's breath ]
More seriously, without any ability to control something like where one puts one's feet (and so remove/lessen the chance of such events), all this suggestion amounts to is a variant way to throw unavaoidable random problems at a player. [Removing the ability for careful and attentive players to avoid silverfish eggs without f3 was already too far down this ill choosen road.]

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.

What benefit does this provide? How does it "enhance gameplay"? It just sounds like a kinda annoying feature currently.
I'm a Whovian squid who likes drawing.
I'm also quite nerdy with an interest in game developing and the concept of a fourth spatial dimension.
All hail chickens.

No support
I don't know bout you, but when I run I don't fall over every 5 seconds. This is very strange and would clearly ruin the game,
How is this enhancing gameplay? This sounds really annoying.
Check out my suggestions! Here is one of them:

This.. I like this idea very much.
