Really? Then explain why they have added most of the features which Optifine originally added; for example, remember back when you needed Optifine to have mipmapping, or even HD textures, render distance was "tiny", "short", "normal", "far" instead of in chunks (and even then, only up to 16 until recently; of course, not to be one-upped Optifine now goes up to 64), FPS was "power saver" (35), "balanced" (120), and "max FPS" (unlimited) instead of a slider, there was no Vsync, and so much more? Really, try loading up 1.6.4 and see how limited the video settings are, and even then there are still several settings which Optifine added first (e.g. "Advanced OpenGL", the origin of Optifine's claim that it doubled FPS - from my experience that statement was only true before it was added to vanilla. Optifine also added Vsync and a brightness/gamma setting first).
No, just because something is in a mod is no excuse to to add anything - otherwise, you could write off pretty much the entire "Update Aquatic" since there are mods which did everything it is adding; if you removed everything that a mod added at some point you wouldn't have much of a game left (probably like Alpha or early Beta, before modding really became popular).
I agree with Angeltxilon, if Mojang took some concepts from mods that a majority of players use, then they might want to get in contact with the creator of the concept and add it into the game with a togglable option in the settings. Also mods on console would be a great addition.
well there is a difference between copying a mod and adding something similar to their features, and also Mojang probably wont add more things from optifine because optifine has it(obviously), and Mojang wants to spend time on other features
Any reason why we don't have higher "settings" with all the fancy shaders and better textures in the base game?
because minecraft doesnt want to copy optifine

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
