I was thinking about the savanna biome and how it doesn't have any specific mobs, and it just snowballed into this.
Savanna Improvements
Includes:
Three new mobs (Wildebeest, Hyena, Scavenger)
One new weapon (Spear)
Two new items (Wildebeest horn, Wildebeest hide)
Two new foods (Hyena meat, Hyena Stew)
One new armor piece (Wildebeest tunic)
One new generated structure (Scavenger cave)
Wildebeest stats:
Health: 8 Hearts
Hostility: Peaceful
Drops: 0-2 Wildebeest horn(s), 1-3 Raw beef, 1-3 Wildebeest hide
Damage: N/A
Eats: Wheat, grass, apples
Spawn: Savanna
Hyena stats:
Health: 5 Hearts
Hostility: Neutral
Drops: 1-2 Hyena meat
Damage: 2 points (1 heart)
Eats: Any meat
Spawn: Savanna
Removed:
Savanna brute stats:
Appearance: Two and a half blocks tall, looks like a wildebeest minotaur, holds a spear
Health: 10 Hearts
Hostility: Hostile
Drops: Same as wildebeest plus 0-1 Spear
Damage: 4 points (2 hearts)
Eats: N/A
Spawn: Brute cave
Re-added/Renamed:
Scavenger stats:
Appearance: Villager model. Slightly darker skin, dark grey robe, and holding a spear
Health: 9 hearts
Hostility: Hostile
Drops: 0-1 Spear, 0-1 Potion of healing, 1 Hyena Stew
Damage: 4 points (2 hearts)
Eats: N/A
Spawn: Scavenger's cave
Spear info:
The spear is like the trident in the sense that it can be thrown. It can be tipped with potions just like arrows. The spear can also be placed on a block by crouching and right clicking on a block. It won't break when the block is moved which would make spike traps a cool, new possibility. It would deal four points (two hearts) of damage, and it would be crafted with a wildebeest horn and two sticks like a shovel.
Removed:
Totems info:
The totems would be like the totem of undying but with different effects. They would be a super rare find in randomly generated chests, but one would always be in the secret room in a scavenger's cave. The totem of invisibility would be light blue and it would make the user and whatever they were holding invisible. The totem of speed would be dark blue and give the user speed II. The totem of leaping would be green and give the user leaping II.
Hyena stew info:
Hyena stew would be crafted with two pieces of cooked hyena meat and a bowl. It would replenish five hunger bars. Raw hyena meat would replenish one, and cooked hyena meat would replenish two.
Wildebeest tunic info:
The wildebeest tunic would be crafted with eight pieces of wildebeest hide like a chest plate. It would give you three armor points and sharpness resistance, which would mean you ignore two points of sharp damage dealt to you. Sharp damage is damage from a sword, axe, pickaxe, hoe, spear, trident, or arrow.
Scavenger's cave info:
Scavenger's caves would spawn in hills in savanna biomes. They would have a small room with some paintings, a chest, and a spear. Behind one of the paintings would be another small room. This room would have a chest and a block of emerald.
I hope you like all these ideas! I thought very hard about how everything would work.
Change log:
Changed thread name from The Savanna Update to Savanna Improvements.
Removed Shaman/Added Savanna brute.
Removed Savanna brute/Re-added and Renamed Shaman to Scavenger.
I like the overall concept, but there are some things I disagree with. Totems are just overpowered potions, and the two animals only drop meat. Maybe they could drop something else that would be useful. Lastly, I don't think evil black people would be a good idea.
There's been a recent influx of threads called "The _____ Update", and this idea isn't big enough to consider it a full update. I suggest renaming it "Savanna Improvements" or something similar.
I understand what you mean with the shaman. My idea wasn't for them to be black, I meant for them to have more tanned skin since they live in a really hot place. If you think that their skin would be better normal, could you give me some suggestions to set them apart from normal villagers?
I will change the totem. Would it be better if they would break after awhile?
I couldn't think of anything else for the hyena, but I really wanted a mob like that to be in the savanna. Do you have any suggestions? I thought that the wildebeest was good because you need to kill it to make a spear.
What about an alternate dog model for hot biomes, like a sighthound like the Azawakh or Saluki, or a rabbiting scent hound of similar build like a Pharaoh Hound?
I have mixed feelings myself about how many variant animals the game needs, especially as biome is a type of ecosystem not one particular example of that biome on Earth. Like how Taiga can exist in North Asia, or Northern Europe, or North America. Savana could be in Africa but also parts of Australia or South America.
Why not suggest an elephant? Kangaroo?
Not sure about the shaman illager/villager, one because we have Savanna villages, and two because 'shaman'/'shamanism' often gets applied in 'Western' anthropology to describe a variety of roles and practices that the respective indiginous cultures would consider distinct and have their own words for.
"Savanna could be in Africa but also parts of Australia or South America."
I see what you mean, but since the savanna in Minecraft has acacia trees, I made the animals Africa themed.

Okay. Everyone seems to dislike the shaman idea. What do you think would be a good replacement?
I've updated the post again! The savanna brute was removed because it didn't seem to fit in Minecraft to me. The shaman was re-added and renamed the scavenger. I'm still working on a good way to tweak the totems.
I don't understand why people keep saying the animals are useless. I know the hyena could be better, but the wildebeest is needed to make a spear. I thought the wildebeest tunic was a good idea too.
I said in the OP that scavenger caves would spawn at the base of a hill. Now that I think about it, maybe they could spawn at the base of mountains too!
I appreciate the feedback, and I hope that I was able to help you understand the scavenger cave.

I think it would be a good addition to the Savannah biome, minus the shaman and totems.
