I think that minecraft could have a percent chance that when you break leaves a stick could fall out. It doesn't have to be any particular kind of tree.
This would somewhat increase the yield per tree, but – other than in highly resource restrictive situations (eg.Skyblock) – I don't think this would 'break' things at modest drop rates as wood is one of the cheaper resources.
The concept makes a certain amount of logical sense (for what little that argument is worth), and how much effect it would depends on what percentage chance is assigned…
[assuming for the sake of simplicity that the percentage does not vary by tree type (although it would be both logical and comparatively easy to have this vary) and using birch (which always grows 50-60 leaf blocks per tree)]
if the frequency is similar to apples (1/200), I think this would be barely noticable
if the frequency is similar to jungle saplings (1/40 or 5x that of apples) it would be only about 11/4 to 11/2 sticks per birch
if the frequency is similar to general saplings (1/20 or 10x that of apples) it would still amount to only about 21/2 to 3 sticks per birch and be more an annoyance in one's inventory than a help
moving the chance to 1/2 (100x that of apples) amounts to sticks equivalent to about 31/4 logs per birch or ~55% extra per tree (a major advantage very early game), but (since sticks cannot be crafted into planks) would likely lead to sticks joining feathers and seeds as "junk" by mid-game.
Nothing particularly wrong with this idea at modest drop rates, but I don't see it doing much outside of special, limited resource play (which it might tend to 'break') and therefore don't see this as being worth the effort (however minimal) to include it.
[At very high drop rates, I think the effects would be to remove much of the challenge from the very early game and produce an inventory annoyance later.]

It makes sense. Real-life trees have leaves are connected to sticks. It'd be cool to have sticks break and fall off the trees in vanilla minecraft without the need for the mod.
The question is - WHAT is the percentage of stick drops? If it's too high it could completely make the two wooden plank stick recipe uselss! It really should be low or it'll be too easy to get sticks.
(I'm really surprised by the 50% difference in the poll! 🤓)
Perhaps this suggestion could be combined with the ability for dirt to have a chance of dropping cobblestone. Then we could remove the ability to collect wood with your hand and bam, one of the most unrealistic parts of Minecraft solved.

How would you make the crafting table, huh. You didn't think about that lol,
A little off tpoic, but I think the real-life equivalent would be: find fallen branches to get sticks (green branches are difficult to break, because they bend), find rock/flint near river, scrape tree with rock/flint to get bark/fiber, combine rock/flint simple ax head and fallen wood stick with bark wrapping to make simple ax, use ax to collect larger pieces of wood....when you can't do the work in your hands alone, use wood from trees (gathered with simple ax) to craft a table to craft on.

Although it is small, i believe it could be good idea, but provide more detail or put this in the small suggestions thread.

could make sticks upcraft into planks. Perhaps 5 sticks in an X pattern with string in the remaining 4 spots.
