Let's face it, Minecraft isn't exactly known for it's storage system, it's rather basic, hasn't gotten much attention sense chests where added, so I suggest we change that.
Blocks:
Silo: a block that can hold 64 stacks of one item, can attach to an infinite number of other silos to increase storage capacity for that one item (ie, one silo can hold 4096 dirt while a 2*2*2 silo can hold 32768 dirt (that's not as much as it sounds like, believe it or not, it's about 19 chests of a single item type)) the stored item will appeared on the front of the silo, and entering it's gui will show you how many items are in there, shortened(ie 8,500 items will look like 8.5k items in the gui, looks like a crate with iron trimmings, attached silos will have a connected trimming
Recipe:
ILI
LoL I=iron, L=log, o=chest
ILI
Tank: a block used for storing liquids, one tank can hold 16 buckets worth of liquid, only without the 48 iron required normally, can hold milk, water, and lava, water will slowly refill on it's own, (about 1bucket every 5 minutes) and lava will emit a light level based on how much fluid is in there, (one bucket per light level). Looks like an iron-trimmed block of glass, fluids in it will render higher or lower based on how much is in there.

Ender crafter: an automatic crafting table used in an E.S.S, more detail later
The ender storage system, or E.S.S for short, is an item "matrix" if you will, comprised of overseers, viewers, and crafters, and I will explain how it work, and how to set one up.
To start, you need Ender viewers, and when you place them, you'll notice a few things, in the center, there will be a single inventory slot, in the top corner right corner, there will be three slots for upgrades, which i'll get to later, and in the top left corner, there will be a question mark, and clicking this will open another gui which will have two text bars, one is for setting a channel, which you MUST do for this to work, a bar to set a custom name, because wynaut? The very bottom has a button to change the multiplayer settings for the channel, they are public, which allows all players to access it private, which allows only you to accses it, whitening, which creates a text bar where you can enter other player's names to let them use you're channel, or black list, which allows you to list names of players who can't access it. editing a channel will automatically put these settings in any viewer or overseer using the channel. But to actually use one of these you must put either a chest, silo, or tank to access it's inventory from the overseer, having a fluid bucket sorted will put the fluid into a tank and sort the bucket. Right clicking an inventory in an overseer will give you a few options, these include adding a filter to the inventory which can be item, creative tab based, or(if the modding api is ever added) what mod something is from, directly seeing what's in it, and taking the inventory, spilling whatever's in it.
The ender Overseer is the brains of the operation, when set to a channel you have access to, it will show you the inventories of all ender viewers on the same channel, along with being able to search items, you can set a filter to show items in order from most to least, least to most, a-z, and z-a, also, ther's a built in crafting table so you can quickly craft items strait from your chests, but all this ain't free of course, to run, it needs fuel, which I will call ender flux, or EF for convenience sake, the EF appears as a green bar the left side of the gui, under it is a slot where you can put ender pearls or ender eyes to increase the EF in the network ender pearls give 250 EF, while eyes of ender give 300 EF, taking and depositing items into a network each take 1EF per item, and each network can hold 10,000 EF.
The crafter is an automatic crafting table for the E.S.S, it can store up to 4 recipes, and can craft using a standard crafting table, a furnace, a brewing stand, and with the proper upgrade(more on this later) certain block types including stone, cobblestone, netherack, and endstone. Programing a recipe into a crafter costs 100EF, but after that to craft an item cost 5EF per recipe, Programing a recipe is simple, select the station you wish to craft from, such as a furnace(mind you that a crafter can only do 1station each) put in a valid recipe, (will fail otherwise) and click ok, if your recipe worked your network will lose 100 EF and you can craft a programmed item from the ender Overseer, by middle clicking it and selecting how many you want by typing in a number, any item you have programmed but don't have any of them, the craftable item will appeared with a c next to it. This is usefully for players who do a lot of building, for example, a player could grab a few stacks of stone bricks, request 10 more stacks, go build, and come back to have those 10 stacks of stone bricks ready for them.
And because I forgot, the viewer looks like a chest with an eye of ender texture, the crafter looks like a green crafting table, and the overseer looks like an eye of ender with a red iris and a crafting grid on top.
Upgrades: upgrades are items that can increase the power and uses of E.S.S blocks, the upgrades all have a similar recipe, being
GEG
E_E E=eye of ender, G=gold _= different items based on what upgrade you want
GEG
The different items are chest=storage upgrade, iron bars=drain upgrade, obsidian=generation upgrade, Redstone block=speed upgrade, and hopper=collection upgrade. Storage upgrades can be put into viewers to add slots to hold chests in, each viewer can hold 3 storage upgrades and henceforth have up to 4 chests/silos/tanks, drain upgrades can be put into overseers with tanks to make it so that if there is a water block above them, they'll suck it up, and if there's a cow above them they'll suck up a milk bucket every 5minutes or so, collection upgrades can be put also be put into viewers, this upgrade will cause the viewer to attempt to collect items from the environment similar to the ender collector from the extra utilities mod(for those that are unaware of what this does, it will grab items in a certain radius and put them into an inventory below them before they become entities,(Don't ask me how that works, it just does)) the main difference being that it puts collected items in itself rather than the inventory below that. It's main use is for high-efficiency farms, such as youtuber Etho's latest Nederland farm where the amount of underwear can severely lagg weaker computers. The default range is 3*3*3 around it, but adding additional upgrades will increase the radio's by two, so from 3*3*3, to 5*5*5, to 7*7*7. Speed upgrades can be put into crafters to increase the speed they craft items(+1 item/half second each, default 1per half second, smelting and brewing speed is increased by 20% each upgrade) crafter can hold 3 upgrades, generation upgrades go into the crafter aswell, and allow it to make various stone-based blocks using water and lava, sand, gravel, and cobblestone only need to have water and lava in the system to craft, stone and clay consumes water in the network to craft, obsidian consumes lava in the network to craft glowstone consumes water and glowstone dust, so you don't have to go to the nether to decorate with it after you get some, that it, Redstone and water is user for netherack, and chorus and water make endstone.
So I think that's all she wrote, so if you have any questions, or suggestions, or enjoyed the suggestion let me know, just, don't even consider calling this not vanilla enough, the same could be easily said about elytra, horses, brewing, enchanting, the nether, the end, you get the idea.
Something like the E.S.S. being added sounds unrealistic and overpowered. The silo is a nice idea for mob farms, but it would still be difficult to filter all the items they can drop, especially tools that would not fit in a silo. And how would hoppers work with a silo anyway?

Well, for you're first concern, 1. It's only storage, it's not like you can automatically farm the wither with it, so can you please be more clear on that front, and 2. Minecraft isn't exactly a realistic game, if the cubes, zombies, skeletons, kamikaze moss monsters, etc didn't make it obvious, as for your second concern, you could just do a hopper filtration system, as they interact with silos the same way as chests.

The Viewer, Crafter, or Overseer seem too automated for Minecraft, but this Barrel Mod seems like the silo you're talking about.
I can understand where you're coming from with the crafter, but people have done some serious automation with Redstone, also, I don't see how the viewer and crafter are automated. And I did t make some inspiration from JABBA, but I did tweak it some to avoid directly adding it, and a mod is no reason to not add something to vanilla

I definitely like the idea of the silo and tanks, but the tank has a bit of a large holding power for what it is, I'd say halving it or even decreasing it to a fourth of the storage would be more appropriate.
For the E.S.S. business, the idea seems an awful lot like the computer system from Applied Energetics. Which I can appreciate a source of inspiration, but other than using Ender eyes to run, still seems super over powered for the tiny amount of resources needed to make it run.

I have to disagree with you on the tanks, 16 buckets isn't a whole lot, a normal chest holds 27 items, so it could hold more lava, it would just take a lot more iron, which isn't really that rare to start, as for the E.S.S, I did base it off AE2, as it is really the best role model to follow by a landslide, but do you have any suggestions to nerf it?

The whole E. S. S. seems a little too complicated and overpowered. Especially since it's just for storage and you can make similar things with pure redstone. The silo seems pretty balanced, though.
Partial support.

The whole E. S. S. seems a little too complicated and overpowered. can you please tell me how exactly it's OP/overcomplicated so I can fix it? Especially since it's just for storage and you can make similar things with pure redstone yes, but that's much bulkier and time consuming.. The silo seems pretty balanced, though.
