Your suggestion looks really complex. I would just dumb it down to this.
Right click on shelf, choose book (however many that is, I like 3, but that's just me), as for how reading books work, it's just a sign with a new background. There, simple and easy.
I like it, I don't really need all the information because it know it but that won't stop me. Also can you guys give me some help in installing and with the download?
Yeah I can understand people saying they dont like books being used for tutorials. Infact this idea isnt supposed to be only tutorials, they were suppsoed to be a side thing. I just cant think of many other types of books.
Also every book will have a custom sprite, Ive already finished some, posted in earlier post, Im going to finish the rest soon im just really lazy.
Inregards to the secret compartment book, It wont look exaclty the same as a regualr book, It will have a very slight goldish tint so notch wont consider it a hiding trick. Its distinquishable but stil tricky. In fact i already made the sprite for the secret compartment book its bottom row second to left

Heres a picture of the normal book next to the secret compartment book, look carefully and you can see the difference (the regular book is on the left and secret compartment i on right) Notice the slight gold tint
utter nonsense about fairies and goblins and trolls and stuff. actual book has only one story in it, but there are multiple that randomize each time you craft a new one.
fairy tale book + gold ingot = bible
not an actual bible, but something similar. as you make more bibles, they will cycle through a list of volumes that goes from creation all the way up to the present (kind-of). if a bookshelf has three bibles in it, it will emit faint light.
fairy tale book + obsidian = demonological tome
basically the opposite of a bible. it still cycles through a list of "volumes" that goes chronologically, but his time from the opposite point of view: creepers, skeles, and zombies... maybe a little tale of origin for each.
lastly, I would like to thank you and your friends for taking the time to write the content of aaaaaaaaaall these books.
moral: good ideas are good, but lots of input for ingame books is a little over the line.
As much as i like downloading mods everytime a new update comes along and breaks them, I would much rather have notch himself (or jeb) implant it for all of us to use

I think another form of book that'd be both good and interesting is a combination of book + which can be right clicked to capture a screenshot in the book. this would allow the notes about locations from custom books to also include a visual component so that you can make even more useful markers.
Another idea is to make a few other potential books that cover mining hierarchy along with maybe a farming book.
Sounds awesome! If this were to happen, SMP would be much more fun. Plenty of sales opertunities, like "for 12 coal, I'll give you this bestseller novel by (insert name here)" or "if you build me a house, I'll give you this book I wrote on how to make computers and such with redstone circuits".

I want books I can fill up with whatever. Would add a neat element to fan art (of the written variety) to just stash it someplace on a server and let it be found by whoever.
I also love this idea, but a great way to improve it is if I can copy+paste to the inside of books, so I made have books filled with delicious Copy-Pasta

No, Books are not soley for looking things up like i've said before, There are also other types of books. Also not everyone knows about the wiki especially new players. And your also not forced to use the books you can still use the wiki if you want. I feel like tabbing out ruins the emmersion
