The lapis satellite dish is a new block that can be crafted with one diamond, four lapis lazuli block, and four redstone blocks. It has one side on it that can receive a redstone signal.
How does it work?
When you right click the satellite dish, it will open up a menu. In this menu there will be an button that, when clicked, switches between "Sending" and "Receiving". There will also be an area to enter a number between 1-9999. This number is the channel that redstone signals will be communicated within.
So say that you have a timer that leads to a satellite dish set to "Sending" on the channel 1. Then you have one or more of these satellite dishes nearby that are also set to channel 1, but instead set to "Receiving". Now any redstone pulse that enters the sending satellite dish will be sent to the receiving satellite dish.
Then say you have a "Receiving" satellite dish set to channel 2. It will error (more on that later) because it can not find a sender to receive a redstone pulse from.
What are the limitations?
Well, first off, it can only send signals to other satellite dishes that are 40 blocks away.
Second, you can only have 100 satellite dishes receiving one channel's signal. If you break that rule, it will "error".
What is erroring?
Erroring is basically a way of preventing issues with the satellite dish. When it is errored, the satellite dish will have red highlights instead of blue ones, and will fail to receive or send signals.
Satellite dishes appear errored when :
They are set to receive a redstone pulse from a channel but can not connect to a sender
There are more than 100 satellite dishes receiving one signal.
I'm clueless when it comes to all this redstone mumbo jumbo, but from what I do know this could be pretty useful if you don't want long paths of redstone everywhere.
Support, I guess. I don't really know.

*Do you wanna hear a skeleton joke? It's very humerus.
Just seeing the words "satellite dish" scream out "not really!" in the terms of being good for vanilla. This actually sounds... too useful. In that it overpoweredly substitutes redstone dust in some ways. I can't see any wireless stuff working out for the game if it ruins the sole purpose of redstone dust.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.

So its not a good idea because it doesn't fit in? What about the guardian? Did that appear to fit in when it was first added?
Anyways if it's "too useful", than it can be made more expensive or only be able to send signals a lower distance. I just think it would be useful for people who can't fit a timer into their build, or want to have a certain contraption(excluding the redstone near the sending satellite dish) compact.

I didn't say it was a bad idea, all I said is I much rather it called (And look if it looks like a real life satellite dish or similar) something else.
Take the Elytra. Instead of directly adding wings, which is kinda unfitting, they added the Elytra, which achieves a similar role, but is slightly changed in appearance (and functionality, but that's besides my point) to suit the game more.

If you have an idea to put forward then go for it.
The idea is good (and it can't entirely replace redstone dust, as some people are saying), but calling it a satellite dish sounds out of place. Do satellite dishes fit in with magical dust, potion brewing, and sword-based combat?
It would be better to make it some kind of magic transmitter, instead of a high-tech one.

this "lapiz satellite dish" is too usefull,it will make redstone less viable
many people will use it more that redstone dust since you only need them a little(like stated above, you cant replace redstone dust completly)
but i like the Limitations you make like it cant send signals to other satellite dishes that are 40 blocks away ,it prevent them from becoming Overpowered overusefullness
but anyway id like it and i want to see it in minecraft PARTIAL SUPPORT
I really like this idea. It would be especially useful on a server, where not enough chunks would be loaded to send redstone signals across long distances. It would also be useful in vanilla. I understand people saying it is OP but I think making it expensive how it is now is good. Also people are saying it doesn't fit in, but Minecraft does not have a timeframe or era, and there is a lot of technology in the game already, why not this?

Well I have 2 points. Number 1, this already exists in modded minecraft with wireless redstone. Number 2 this actually seems like a good idea but like my first point you can easily get this with mods.

Thats why I'm suggesting this! You shouldn't need mods!
This would be great for short range wireless redstone when you are trying to conserve space in an area around, say, a piston door. Perhaps instead, change the name to something like Pulse Transporter?
Dismissing part of a suggestion because of a third party program or mod isn't allowed. Don't say to get a mod unless you mean get a mod until this is added.
Except the range is 40 blocks. That is only a few chunks. I'm sure the server will have those chunks loaded.
Minecraft does have a theme- a general theme at least. The most complicated technology that I have seen in Minecraft's theme is the daylight sensor. If Minecraft doesn't have a timeframe or era, we might as well add assault rifles and tanks. Minecraft's general theme is the Medieval theme with some added technology that isn't terribly complicated and some fantasy elements like dimensions and dragons. A satellite dish is a device that just wouldn't fit in because its technology far surpasses the Minecraft technology. If this were to be like a mini dimension that only transmits redstone signals, then it would fit in a way.
Maybe instead of having a range limitation, have it consume redstone while in use? Connect a hopper and a chest to it, and it will eat redstone dust, with no signal limit.
Other than that, fantastic idea. You should make a mod for this!

Yes I should pull out my mad coding skills that don't exist and go... do this...
Anyways, I don't think having it eat redstone dust would be a very good idea. It would make it very unethical to use.
Why unethical? You could just make a witch burner and get infinite redstone like that.
because murder for green energy is ethical right?
In all seriousness, Satellite dishes won't make sense unless we actually launch satellites into some kind of blocky orbit. We could try ionospheric reflection but does Minecraft even have an ionosphere?

Why does this even matter? They aren't really meant to use satellites to communicate redstone pulses, they are just meant to work like one way radios. Remote controllers don't use satellites.

While I certainly see the use of this, and like the idea itself, I wouldn't want it to be a 'satellite dish', as it seems out of place to me.
I much rather have it named something else, though I'm not too sure on what else to call an object of this type.
