Interesting or not, it should be entirely optional, not forced. Let the server owner, or the player in single player enforce the rules. Don't force them on us. This is very user hostile and very unwelcome. I feel that if these new additions were optional instead of forced, it would be a far better experience for the player.

I feel these additions to be very very user hostile and offer nothing other than a level of difficulty that should be able to be turned off. I am strongly against these new additions and will speak out against them in public form. I will find people like minded to help my cause. Please make them an option. While these additions are a good idea, forcing them down the player's throat is in no way the way to handle them. Even on easy, they are there and I can find no way of turning them off. Please make this a discover-able button in options under difficulty settings as they offer quite literally nothing to the game other than nerfing the experience.

I don't like the new mechanic but I feel it just needs some tweaking to be a good compromise between both sides. In the other topic they already stated you could tweak it to your liking.

tbh, I haven't formed a definite opinion. I'll try the new mechanics, but if I don't like them I'll just play an old version.
Plus, if the really suck and everyone hates them, they may get removed.
This is probably some of the wisest words I've seen on the topic.
The mechanics will stay unless everyone agrees they're bad, but you won't ever get to like them if you don't give them a good try.

Yes, let's add an option to disable an entire update. The combat change is not some troll feature, it's something to add balance. If you want overpowered click spam, play an older version. People seem to never look at the positives on the update, like the shields and lingering potions.

I don't want compromise as I don't PVP. I like the new end cities. Awesome that I can turn cooldowns off, now how about updating it and allowing me to make armor work better again? I don't care about PVP balance, PVPers ruin every good game. It needs to go away, remember these forums are not the only way to speak out against atrocities. Forcing me into some system because a small portion of players wants something is not OK in any way shape or form. Minecraft has never been about that, and if it begins now, I feel the game could in effect die off from such changes being forced on players who simply don't PVP, have 0 interest in PVP, will never enjoy PVP no matter what in any universe, in any reality I will always hate PVP in any game. I feel that people who PVP whine the loudest and it is time I speak up against PVP. Minecraft has never been difficult and it is why I play it. If you want a difficult game, go play one of the literally millions of games that cater to you already. Stop thinking every game has to be entirely based off of PVP in order for it to be good.

I agree that all these new "features" should be optional. Granted, they already are but they are enabled by default and require an advanced look into a command just to turn it off. The cooldown among other things should be disabled by default so if you want to have a "Clickspamless Hardcore Thinkfest Realistic Battle Simulator" then you can turn it on yourself.
Forcing such gameplay changing aspects onto everyone with very little way to remove it isn't very fair. Some people might actually like most the things they add, but to enjoy them they are forced to play in a game which has become harder for a reason that they don't even like.
Some people won't be able to use the new mechanics because of Low FPS, High Ping, or Low Skill. All these people already a disadvantage. This is forcing you to be more accurate with low FPS which won't work. Forcing you to be on time with shields for High Ping which won't work. And fighting monsters normally with low skill which won't work. So just to satisfy people saying "This is too easy and spammy" you basically abandon anyone with a disadvantage.
Servers with lag problems will also be abandoned, since it'll be far harder to accurately land a hit on someone, making fighting tedious which leads to more annoyance and boredom.
Also, I've never seen anyone complain about click spam over the time I've played since 1.4 beta. Ever. Lots of hackusations though.
What if I were to introduce a reflection of 1.9 to everyone?
People could say mining is too easy. All you do is hold your mouse down and look at rocks. No skill and no strategy!
So then mojang introduces an update which changes mining.
• Now your pickaxes (Attacks) have a mining cooldown which you have to time the clicks to get the most breaking power (Damage). This will make mining slower, but it was too easy right?
• Pickaxes also now break blocks slightly slower, (Weapons are slightly weaker) and Efficiency enchantments now only boost speed by 15% per level instead of 30%. (Sharpness only boosts damage by (lvl x 0.5) + 0.5)
• Also furnaces (Armour) gets nerfed, now they smelt 5 times as slow (Now they provide less protection) so you can't rely on furnaces (Armour) alone.
• Also the lower the fuel gets, the slower the furnace goes. (The more damage you take, the less armour protects you)
• But to "fix" this they add Bellows (Shields) And you can attach a Bellow to a furnace and manually pump it to make the furnace smelt faster! (You can block with a shield to reduce damage further!)
• And they also introduce Cave Ins! (Entity Collisions) Which cause parts of caves to randomly collapse, sometimes on you! (animals and players can push you around, sometimes into hazards!)
• But you can fix this with /scoreboard. Though turning it off makes you unable to collect fallen rocks! (Turning collisions off make you unable to push anything, like animals)
• To allow more "Strategy" they introduce more types of TNT (Potion Arrows, Lingering Potions) and they change Shovels (Axes) to be more effective at mining stone (Attacking).
• Plus they add a whole bunch of interesting looking things that don't effect gameplay as much.
This update makes mining slower and less automatic, furnaces slower and require manual control to make them faster, and adds cave ins.
"It makes mining harder and more complex! Now you need to think of strategies for mining rather then the easy boring stuff you already have!"
"Also, most of this stuff can't be turned off, so if you want new types of TNT or all the other cool stuff but don't want harder mining, deal with it!"

The new combat system is made to balance out PvE and PvP after the adventure updates and updates after it had small negative effects that added up (Such as spiders and skeletons no longer being a threat because of sprinting, which is still not averted in the case of spiders)
The mining system you just made was made with no regards as to whether anyone at all would want it, or if it's even necessary to make balance changes to mining. Heck, mining was changed by 1.9, since now you can no longer switch to a different weapon while mining if ambushed, since attack cooldowns makes getting cornered dangerous (not to mention that switching weapons starts the cooldown).
Again, you never even mention why anyone would want those changes. They're made to be unlikable, which defeats your whole point since the new combat system wasn't made to be unlikable, there are just some players who don't want change.

Although I don't support the nerf to the Sharpness and Protection enchantments, I'm all for the new combat system (and the new end cities)
Don't forget you can always play in 1.8 or earlier if you don't like these changes! (Or just play in peaceful mode)
