I'd like to mention that I suggested this for the Minecraft Windows 10 BETA but feel as though it will earn a larger response for our current Minecraft.
Some would argue that Cortana is the most iconic feature of the new Windows 10, though in truth there's rarely an opportunity to use her.
Want to know what a word means? She's got you covered;
Want to know what the weather is going to be like? She can tell you;
Want to know how to build a brewing stand? No chance!
With this Cortana integration into Minecraft, Cortana can tell you all sorts of things you'd like to know; not only that but she will also be able to give you items in creative, fill command blocks for you and fufill commands in the chatbar. Let's split this up.
In-game Item, Block and Mob Information:
- Hey Cortana? Tell me about the grass block?
- Here's what I found.
Cortana will be able to display information on every possible item, block and mob in the game, for example.
The grass block is most commonly found at the surface of a Minecraft world but has also been seen below the surface in some cases, grass blocks will spread to dirt blocks turning them into grass blocks as well, but cannot affect course dirt.
The grass block can only be obtained by using a silk touch enchanted tool.
Cortana will also say if it can or cannot be crafted, how many drops it can yield and also the best tool to use to obtain it, she will also suggest tools from your inventory, so if you have an iron shovel and a diamond shovel, Cortana will suggest you use the diamond shovel, taking into account damage values and enchants for most efficiency.
She will even pull up information on when it was first introduced into Minecraft.
Cortana won't spam your ears with this information, what she tells will be a basic rundown tl;dr version of the information she pulls up, for example.
"The grass block mostly covers the surface of the Minecraft world, it cannot be obtained without using the silk touch enchantment; The grass block was first introduced in Minecraft 0.0.0 (Pre-Classic)"
Crafting Recipes:
Cortana will be able show you with a diagram how to craft items from using the crafting bench, to the brewing stand; she will also display the materials required in order to craft it along with how much it will yield, such as having one dye circled by eight glass will craft eight stained glass of that colour, or how one poppy will yield one red dye but one rose bush will yield two red dye.
Execution of Chat Commands:
Cortana will be able to perform commands, easy for commands you know how to say but not how to type; for example.
Hey Cortana? Summon a villager riding a pig.
/summon Villager ~0 ~0 ~0 {Riding:{id:[Pig]}}
Hey Cortana? Summon an invicible zombie with a diamond helmet, an iron sword and no AI.
Hey Cortana? Play the sound a Blaze makes when it dies.
/playsound mob.blaze.death [USERNAME] ~ ~ ~
Hey Cortana? Give me night vision for 10 minutes.
/effect [USERNAME] minecraft:night_vision 600
Those are just some of the things Cortana will be able to do out of the hundereds of commands you can potencially request.
She will take into account terms like, 'Over there' performing the command where you're looking, 'left of me', 'right of me, 'above me', 'behind me', well I'm sure you get the idea.
I haven't decided yet if Cortana will execute the command immediatly or if she will ask if the command is right and wait for a yes or no input.
Fill Commands in Command Blocks:
Just like using the chatbar, you can ask cortana to write the command in the command block while you have the GUI open, you can ask her to highlight all of it or specific parts such as the coordinates.
If asking her to delete all of it she will prompt you and wait for a yes or no to avoid any accidents.
Requesting Debug Screen Information:
The debug screen (F3) holds a lot of information that can be helpful to many of us, if you're having trouble finding information in that conglomeration of text, you can ask Cortana for certain information, for example.
Hey Cortana? What's my FPS?
Hey Cortana? How many entities are there?
Hey Cortana? What are my coordinates?
Hey Cortana? Where am I looking?
Cortana can not only tell you where you're looking but at what, She can tell you the name and status of what you're looking at.
"This is redstone dust, currently power level 11."
Just like using chat commands we will also take into account certain terms, helpful for finding light levels without having to stand on the spot.
Graphic and Sound requests:
Cortana will have access to your graphics and sound options, you will be able to change these options with a simple request.
Hey Cortana? Change field of view to 110.
Hey Cortana? Make clouds fancy.
Hey Cortana? Lower the volume of friendly mobs.
If a value for volume isn't specified it will be changed by 50%, likewise you can say, 'Raise the volume by 20' or 'Change the volume to 20', both sound similar but will give different outputs.
Cortana will also be able to pause and unpause the game for you if you ask politely I'm sure.
Conclution:
Having Cortana integrated into Minecraft boasts nothing but help at ease, Minecraft on the tip of your tongue ready at your convenience.
Help with everything from the most efficient tool to break that diamond ore with, to how large you want that slime.
Cortana won't in anyway help you physically, you want her to craft you a shovel? No chance.
House made of lava not cold enough? Welcome to the club.
Although she may suggest the best course of action. "Try adding water"
Cortana is designed for mic use but that doesn't mean some of you will be left out, if you don't have or just don't want to use your mic, click on Cortana's icon or simply press P and a dialogue box will display ready for you to type anything Minecraft!
Additional Information:
To stop Cortana's side menu from pulling up as much as possible while you're playing, perhaps while you're asking her to fill in a command or other, Cortana will have an icon in-game.

Easy indicators just for your knowledge.
Cortana will cancel any task she's performing just by saying, 'Hey Cortana? Cancel that!' In
which her icon will return to idle after she varifies she's cancled.
Question & Answer:
Q. Do I have to use Cortana?
A. No, Cortana is only activated by saying, 'Hey, Cortana?'; without saying that phrase, you can play Minecraft normally.
Q. How can she fill out commands with generic sentences?
A. Cortana has a unique ability to break down words into meanings she can understand, and with those meanings, she is able to build the command you're requesting.
In time this may become useful in coding with HTML, Python, Javascript; and all other coding languages.
Q. Won't Cortana's popup be in the way?
A. Cortana will be kept in the game window as much as possible, however this is only a suggestion and as such, is also a work in progress.
For instance; questions about items, mobs and blocks will be kept in the game's window, but questions that call for an image or diagram such as how to craft something, will open the popup. I'm working on how this will function without the popup.
Q. Can't this be used to cheat as she can perform commands?
A. Cortana will respect your menu options when creating a world, if you did not allow cheats in the world creation menu, then she will tell you that you don't have permission to use commands in your world.
However you will still be able to request crafting recipes, ask for information on various things and other allowed abilities too!

-Pixel Format Not Accelerated Problems in Windows 10 Reasons-
1.Old Intel CPU (2nd Gen and older) and these aren't ready for Windows 10.Please downgrade to an older version
2-Slow/Intel GPU (But sometimes Intel GPU just work fine from 3rd Gen CPU or newer on Win10)
3-Update Drivers (recommended for Dedicated GPU but not always for Intel's)
[This signature isn't to critisice Intel/Microsft or any thing of this sort, I am criticising You and You idiotness for not checking the requirements for Windows 10] (If you are annoyed of the ammount of the thread with a "Pixel Format Not accelerated" problem, plz Share this signature
As long as the device running Windows 10 is a PC, it should be capable of running Minecraft 1.8.8...
I know, but the November Update is going to make Windows 10 what it would have been if Microsoft didn't rush it out on 7/29 which means it will be more stable.

If you'd like, I can post this on reddit (Credit will be given to you for the idea). This is definitely worth a shot as a feature, and with Microsoft's guidance, they might be able to make it even better

Alright, doing it now. By the way, will there be a way to launch Cortana ingame by using a microphone button or something? Also a text field to type in commands?
The ability to say commands instead of typing them would be wonderful, as would having the ability to find info on a block without ever leaving the game. Full support!

If there's any information I've missed, anything under explained or any questions, feel free to ask.

hmm, this sounds cool. I think she should ask you if the command is correct before doing it.

Maybe I should make a mod for this... after I upgrade to W10.
Wait till Windows 10 November Update comes out to upgrade, but that mod would be awesome I'm thinking
