You could probably get a whole team of people to help you. Many people like this suggestion, and many more(like experienced modders) would probably like it if they were introduced to it.

This is a fairly intriguing idea. Are your models viable to be implemented into the game? I create mods so having a playable example could really help your case. I do think that they are a bit OP as far as drops are concerned and some of the room retain blocks that, thanks to them existing there now, relieve the player from having to travel to certain biomes in order to obtain them like Mycelium.
I can work with you on the balance issues and whatnot. I had a similar idea myself for termites but this one does add a plethora of interesting blocks into the game. Definite support.
This thread has a fain smell of Terraria... Oh wait never mind, my dog just farted.
Anyways, this is a really good idea that would improve mesa biomes. I am still thinking about the ants having same health as spiders, it makes them look like clones. And also, remove the cobweb invulnerability, as well, spiders are supposed to trap insects in their webs, sooo yeah.
Second of all I have a Suggestionfor your Suggestion.
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this already, but ANT LARVAE.
How they spawn:
Ant Larvae have a 1/10 chance of spawning, next to the Queen, every minute (I am bad on deciding how/when things spawn.). Once they spawn, the larvae will just be 1x1x1 in size, and will look like a white slime block with a black sphere in the center.
Growth:
The Ant Larvae will have a 75% chance of being worker ant and a 25% chance of being a soldier ant. The Ant Larvae will take 60-240 seconds to become a worker ant or a soldier ant.
Properties:
The Ant Larvae can be broken as fast as slime blocks are broken, so very easily. When you break an Ant Larvae you get two objects, an Ant egg, which is a small black circle that you can eat, and you also get a ant larvae shell (I need a better name), which is pretty much the white stuff that surrounds the Ant Egg. The Ant Larvae Shell is mostly the Ant Larvae but without the Ant Egg, and when you step in the Ant Larvae Shell it has the same properties as a cobweb. You can also eat the Ant Egg, and it will heal about 1 and a half hunger bars.
That's pretty much all, if my formatting/grammar/spelling is bad then I'm sorry. I haven't written a suggestion in a couple of months, and I just figured out my password today, so thanks!

The larvae would be interesting, it would allow for a form of 'farming' the ants for food, by taking over the colony and changing most of the rooms so that they can not spawn, then making spawning areas around the queen, you could live off of ants! Also, shouldn't the ant larvae be a mob?

I totally support this. This has many features to expand on the Mesa biome, and would add a layer of challenge to an otherwise insanely easy-to-live-in biome.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
Full support.
It would be nice to add new arthropods in Minecraft, as arthropods is a type of mob in the game.
Textures are cool, but the ants could change slightly.

I am always excited for new decorative blocks and these seam pretty cool!
It would also be cool if you could dye the amber lamps ( i didn't get to see them so if this wouldn't work ignore me )
the last thing i suggest is that you make a way to take over the place.
For example, after you "cleared" all of the nurseries the spawn rate solider ants would start degrading over time and after about a week in the game it would cease, leaving only the worker ants which you could live in harmony with where they protect you and in return you let them have any spoils of battle and if the developers really want to get this right they could have a "relationship" status that took into account Attacking, defending, food, etc. And if you neglected them a lot or punched one of them one too many times they would become hostile, but if you let them have drops and gave them food they would ignore you or if you want to go really far you could eventually become the "Queen" and friendly solider ants would spawn.
Although, so that it does not become too easy to become queen, here is how i think the "relationship" mechanic would function.
After killing queen - relation (R) = 0
+After a piece of food is picked up by an ant - r = +.25
+After a piece of material is picked up - r = +.20
+After monster loot is picked up - r = +.23
+After monster is killed by player in "dungeon" - r = +1 -because other monsters don't spawn naturally this will be rare
-After Being hit when docile - r = -20
-after being hit in combat - r = -.80
-after 1 day in time - r = -.20
-after 7 days of not picking up an item - r = -10 this is just an idea
-after killing an ant that is retreating (more in this in a second) - r = -30
When r is greater than 150 then you are awarded queen status and relationship decay significantly slows
when r = a negative number they turn hostile and will start to spawn hostile solider ants
the retreat mechanic cause them to run away with plus 20% haste and cause other to turn hostile
it should also be noted that the relationship is with the whole of the ant community and not individuals.

Thats a good idea, Kashoople. Once I get the time, I'll try to set up a team.
But how do you share an Eclipse file across computers?

Yes, Larvae farms would be amazing (And disgusting)! And I guess they could be considered a mob, I was kinda rushed when I wrote that lol.

Hah, reminds me of the Antlion Cave Systems from Terraria, but nonetheless, I fully Support.
The mesa could use something rather then just colorful assortment of harden clay.
Great balance and uniqueness!
FULL SUPPORT
I have one dislike, resin nuggets should be called resin drops, resin chunks, or resin globs.
I like to keep the name 'nuggets' for metals.

Sure kashoople, I luv chicken nuggets (Id prefer 'block-sized' nuggets though)
About being affected by bane o' arthopods, they should be even though they're insects.
Solution to nerds like me pointing that out: Add a splash text such as
Improperly Classified Ants! or
Non-biologist Swords!
wow, great idea!

any-hoo, thanks for your time!
great idea!
i think "husk" is the word you are searching for!
This is pretty interesting.... Aside from improving mesas and mob variety...
The new ant mobs would give more use to the Bane Of Anthropods enchantment too.
(And those amber blocks look so attractive to me)
Well full support!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Support! I realy like the idea of the new blocks, and the new dungeon!
also how did you make the textures of the ants, what program did you use for the texture packs, and how did you create the banners?
(im sorry im new to this)
My favorite mob:
