Good morning, afternoon, or night, ladies and gents! Today, I am suggesting a new iron-tier sidegrade, the redstone tools! Redstone tools are similar to stone tools, having the same mining strength, damage, and durability, except for a few distinct changes, such as enchanting like iron. These tools would be created by first taking a redstone block, and refining it by smelting it in a furnace. This makes a refined redstone ingot. These ingots are used to craft the redstone tools, as usual.
The redstone sword: "Don't taze me bro!"
The redstone sword is a normal stone sword in terms of durability and damage. However, it has one special power! Redstone, posessing an electric current, can be harnessed with the sword. By right clicking, the sword will drain five durability, and fire an arcing lightning bolt rather than blocking. The sword will then change it's sprite to be a lighter, red hot color for five seconds. In this time it cannot fire a bolt. This bolt will only fire if the player is facing an entity that is within 5 blocks. The bolt will hit the mob for 2.5 armor-piercing damage and set them on fire for three seconds. Enemies wearing metal armor (Chain, iron, gold) will take an extra half heart of damage from the jolt for each piece they wear.
The redstone pick: "I'll shatter you!"
The redstone pick is able to mine any block a stone pick can. It is also able to, when pressing the right mouse button, perform a five second wind up and then swing a powerful shattering blow on whatever block you are looking at (This does not damage mobs). This smashes the stone block into it's granulated form, and damages the tool by five points.
Stone variants: Gravel
Sandstone: Sand
Hardened clay: Gravel
Ice: Snowball (2-6)
Metal block: 9 of whatever it was made of
Bricks: 4 Bricks
The redstone shovel: "HOT HOT HOT"
The redstone shovel is a normal stone shovel, able to dig up most blocks. However, it can also perform a three-second wind up (where the shovel is pulled back and swiftly thrust forward) and then automatically smelt the granulated block it hits! This will turn sand into glass, clay into hardened clay or four bricks (50/50 chance) and will turn gravel back into stone. This special power drains five durability.
Redstone is basically the electricity of minecraft, and the sticks in the crafting are replaced with redstone torches (Basically batteries) so it has a power supply.

Yes, I lied on the servay. No, I do not feel bad. Check out my blog at [email protected]!
This feels sort of like a good idea, but the sword is op. Especially when you consider that it only takes 1-2 redstone ore to get a single sword, plus a leftover ingot. That's crazy. You can just make an inventory of taking sword and rapid fire on enemies.
Good morning, afternoon, or night, ladies and gents! Today, I am suggesting a new iron-tier sidegrade, the redstone tools! Redstone tools are similar to stone tools I thought you said that they were iron-tier, having the same mining strength, damage, and durability, except for a few distinct changes, such as enchanting like iron Why would I want to get to iron-tier items (which are needed to mine redstone) only to downgrade back to stone-tier, just for a couple of arbitrary abilities. These tools would be created by first taking a redstone block, and refining it by smelting it in a furnace Makes sense, and far less OP than just using redstone dust. This makes three refined redstone ingots Why three? Surely it would make more sense to have one redstone block smelt into one refined ingot. These ingots are used to craft the redstone tools, as usual, replacing the sticks with redstone torches This just feels more like a lazy way of adding more redstone to the crafting recipe. It doesn't make sense. Every other tool is made with sticks, so why does this one tool set get a different recipe.
The redstone sword: "Don't taze me bro!"
The redstone sword is a normal stone sword in terms of durability and damage. However, it has one special power! Redstone, posessing an electric current It doesn't, but I'm not going to get into that discussion., can be harnessed with the sword. By right clicking, the sword will drain five durability, and fire an arcing lightning bolt rather than blocking That could get pretty confusing, and a bit broken with the addition of shields and removal of sword blocking in 1.9.. This bolt will only fire if the player is facing an entity that is within 5 blocks Why? What is the point of limiting when players can use this effect?. The bolt will hit the mob for 2.5 armor-piercing damage and set them on fire for three seconds. Enemies wearing metal armor (Chain, iron, gold) will take an extra heart of damage from the jolt. Only a small issue, but is it when the enemy is wearing a full set of metal armor, or just any one piece?

The redstone pick is able to mine any block a stone pick can. It is also able to, when pressing the right mouse button, perform a five second wind up and then swing a powerful shattering blow on whatever block you are looking at (This does not damage mobs) Why the wind up? What does it actually add other than slowing the player down?. This smashes the stone block into it's granulated form, and damages the tool by five points.

Why would you really need that? It takes five seconds to turn blocks into more useless blocks, and it costs more durability to my tool. In some cases, you are turning semi-rare (in terms of terrain generation) blocks into more useless blocks which are more common. It's an interesting concept, however it is not very original, or useful.
The redstone shovel: "HOT HOT HOT"

However, it can also perform a three-second wind up (where the shovel is pulled back and swiftly thrust forward) and then automatically smelt the granulated block it hits! This will turn sand into glass, clay into hardened clay or four bricks (50/50 chance) and will turn gravel back Back? into stone. This special power drains five durability. Again, this ability is very unoriginal and pretty useless. I can smelt 26 items using this shovel, which would cost the entire durability, and take about 2 minutes (that's assuming that you have already collected the 26 items with a different tool, ad have places the items down again). Or, you could smelt it in a furnace, which requires much less manual labor and would not cost you a shovel.
I have literally no idea what to do with the redstone axe and hoe. I'm open to suggestion on that.
This just shows that you have not thought through this idea very well, and just posted whatever came into your head. Think through your suggestions fully before you post them.
Also, as a side note, posting a half finished suggestion and asking other people to finish it off it technically against the rules of the forums.

Redstone tools have been suggested countless times on these forums, and the suggestion never gets much support.
Granted, this idea is a bit more unique than some of the others that I have seen, but it still has one major problem with it that is shared by all of the suggestions.
There is no real point to it.
It is just adding tools for the sake of adding more tools.
This is a great idea but it feels to "Moddy" if that makes any sense. This doesn't really fit with the theme of Minecraft. So for this I give Partial Support.

Anything I can fix to make this better? I removed the torches from the crafting and made redstone blocks only give one refined ingot. And the reason it will only fire at nearby mobs is because in real life, an electric generator, like a Van De Graff generator, needs something nearby to create a current.
This may be a great idea for a mod, but sadly, I do not think that iron sidegrades or redstone tools in general are the best idea for Vanilla Minecraft.

I have one question. Where does it get it's power?

Oops... Forgot to mention the sword would have a cooldown. Thanks!

1. making mods that means coding because you need to know how to code to make mods.
I agree with SebjimPlaysMc; it doesnt really fit in with minecraft and it feels too moddy.
I made you waste your time trying to read this pointless text!
