Yes, I know this is not the original Meteor idea, but this is my take on it.
A meteor Guide, with detailed info about a Meteoriod.
Meteors have a 1 in 1000 chance of happening each day/night. They will start as a speck on the horizon, which is often not seen or mistaken for a star. After about 10 secconds, the object slightly grows and becomes yellow. After 30 seconds since it first appeared, it will be a bright orange and clearly visible from the naked eye. 1 minute after first sight, the meteor is an unmistakable red sphere that appears to be the size of the sun. At this stage, it will light up the sky or outshine the sun and the area will begin glowing red, while a colossal shadow appears over the impact point. At 1 min 30 secs the meteor hits, annihalating anything around the impact point and lighting the borders of the collision on fire.
That was the description of a normal-sized meteor. The listed sizes are below.
Space Rock: 1 block in diameter, only noticeable within 10 seconds of impact. Explodes at the force of a ghast fireball. Often spawns in showers of 5-25. Survival: Don't get directly hit.
Fragment: Small meteor, same as above but much less dramatic. Spawns 2 mins in front of planetoids, so a shower of these gives you a waning. Survival: Stay out of the radius.
Meteoroid: As described above. Survival: Keep your distance from the impact.
Asteroid: A meteor much larger that described above, althought they are much rarer. They appear twice the size of the sun when close to impact. They white out the 1st person cam for 1 second if the player is looking at it when it hits. Survival: These are too big to run from if they spawn near you. Your best chance if to go 20 or more blocks undergound.
And last but certainly not least, Planetoids. They are 100 times rarer than regular meteors. They appear the size of the sun on first sight. They are objects of pure destruction. Normally these bad boys are several times the size of mounatains and have countless space rocks and fragments scouting and following them. They take 5 minutes to reach the ground as well. When 30 seconds from impact, chances are a planetoid will completely block out the sky. Upon impact, if the player is at such a distance to safely watch, they will white the screen for 5 seconds, and when that clears up the player will see blocks suddenly affectel by gravity shooting throught the air, and the planetoid itself still sinking through the ground causing further explosions and lava spouting everywhere. The aftermath will be a crater 2 chunks in diameter, and occasionally a hole in the bedrock. Survival: Get the hell out of there. If you're caught in the blast, you're roasted pigman. Planetoids really are a minecrafter's worst nightmare.
There. Meteors. If you don't like the thought of a lunar mountain pulverizing you newly build mansion, you can toggle them on/off. Meteors are just to remind you that you base is not indestuctible, and also to make the game more suspenseful. If you're in a cave, you get no warning when a meteor is coming. You could be annihalated by an asteroid just when you climb out! Goodbye Minecrafters!

Whoever put good votes, please post why you like this idea. Votes don't count as much as posts, and I don't want this topic looking like absolute trash.
-Bye.

Yes, I would love space rocks. Some of them should have various minerals in them, like real ones. A diamond meteor would be the most devastating, digging a 20x20 foot crater in the ground.

You mean Turn Off Your Computer And Go Outside mode? That's already been done. Apparently it's so realistic you can't tell the difference between it and real life.
I love the ideas of the smaller ones because they'd be cool and an intresting event to see every once in a while, but for the Asteroid and Plantetiod...
They just seem like they'd ruin the game if they hit you. For the smaller ones, it might prove to be a small and fun challenge to fix a small hole in your base.
Yes, I know. That's why Asteroids and Planetoids are ultra-rare.
Update: Blocks destroyed by meteors will convert to collectible form rather than being destroyed. Also, I've decided Planetoid Explosions cannot destroy bedrock. Also, I changed the poll.

Why would we want meteors coming in and destroying all our hard work? Also at 1 out of 1000, that would mean they would hardly ever drop which for a 'feature' is totally useless.
I personally think its a awful idea. If you want stuff like this either mod it or get a modder to make it. Trust me almost no one would download this mod because its not even a fun idea. It would just grief people.

What if you walk in your base...
walk walk walk walk BAM GOODBYE BASE. Not something we want, eh?
