Wouldn't it just be easier to place Fire Charges and set a repeater to fast so that the Dispenser shoots them quickly, mimicking how fast a flamethrower would shoot?
Endergirl00 wouldn't that be very expensive in survival?
I mean that would be a lot of fire charges...
And wouldn't the suggestion be asking the same thing? I mean he expressed 'boxes' as slots, and he says for every slot filled as well as coal, it would be a certain range and duration. Either way is fine. And I can agree this is an interesting suggestion since it would make cool traps and possibly aesthetics as well.
Wouldn't that ruin the usage of dispensers? I mean you have two different items inside a dispenser and the way the dispenser ejects an item is by random slot selection. By that time, it's either the fire charge or the coal that ejects first.

The way this idea works is that using a dispenser and placing a fire charge and a piece of coal in the dispenser
which would result in a continuous spray of fire that spans up to 8 blocks.
A new slot would be added that would appear at the bottom of the original slots for coal. This would let the dispenser
function in a continuous behavior rather than a single behavior per signal recieved.
For a single box filled with fire charges and coal would result in the flame emitted span 4 blocks burning for 60 seconds per
coal at which point 1 coal and 1 fire charge would be consumed. So if you have a full stack of coal and fire
charges the duration would last 64 minutes. Just over an hour.
For 2 boxes filled with fire charges and 1 box filled with coal the flame emitted would span 6 blocks burning for 45 seconds
per coal at which point 1 fire charge from each box filled and 1 coal would be consumed. A full stack of coal and 2 full
stacks of fire charges would last 48 minutes
For 3 boxes filled with fire charges and 1 box filled with coal the flame emitted would span 8 blocks burning for 30 seconds
per coal at which point 1 fire charge from all 3 boxes and 1 coal would be consumed. a full stack of coal and 3 full
stacks of fire charges would last for 30 minutes.
This feature can be used in any direction the dispenser can face.
Light is emmitted from the projected flame for 13 blocks, gradually dimming after 5 blocks.
If a flammable block comes into contact with the projected flame it will catch fire.
If a mob or player comes into contact with the projected flame 1 heart bar of damage is inflicted per second and will
set that entity on fire for up to 10 seconds based on exposure to the direct flame.
if an item comes into contact with the flame it will be burned.
A mob or player can stand in water to prevent being caught on fire when in direct contact with the flame but will
still suffer 1 heart bar of damage per second as long as the entity stays in the flame.
The flame produced by the dispenser can only be emitted if the dispencer is receiving a redstone signal.
Dispenser continuous flame throwers can be used in decoration, defense, pvp , and adventure maps. Would also
make for a fairly effective mob grinder just don't forget the hoppers

@Endergirl00
It would vaguely simulate what I suggested yes. But what I was going for was a stationary flame that wouldn't burn the whole
world down. I've seen what rapid fire dispensers can do with fire charges. While it's great for burning down large forests,
I wanted to suggest something a little less destructive :).

thank you for your support
@mrwigglies
I had thought about that problem as well but couldn't find a fix for it beyond extra coding. But I think it would be worth it.
Wether or not it would ruin dispencers is unknown. It could just give them the capability to use 2 slots simultaneously
which could be used for more than just this suggestion.

hmm... maybe there could be a new slot at the bottom for the coal... I don't know I got nothing.....
I like it! It's going in.
