Does anyone else think Dinnerbone's 1.9 previews of the new arrows suggest adding special effects? I do! Here's my take on it so far:
Choose your effect. This would be as simple as adding a completed
potion to a basic arrow in the crafting grid. This crafts only one
"Potion Arrow" and can only have one effect, but it can be extended or
empowered as normal.
Splash or no splash? Using a splash potion in the crafting instead
would make it create a splash effect at point of impact rather than just
affecting the target struck. You could also add Gunpowder to a "Potion
Arrow" to make it splash, but you can't revert them afterward to
non-splash. (Like normal.)
Levity. This upgrade can be applied by adding a Feather to the
"Potion Arrow." This decreases it's falling speed by 50%. The effect can
be stacked, but decreases falling speed by 50% of the remaining falling
speed. Perfectly straight shooting isn't in the game for more than one
reason, but there's plenty of reasons to snipe a bit better with loftier
arrow.
Ender Emission. Adding an Ender Pearl to a "Potion Arrow" gives it
the ability to create a nasty trail. While not as wide as an actual
splash there would be a brief trail a few blocks wide behind the arrow's
flight path that would convey the loaded effect all the same. This
would start a little ahead of the shooter to prevent accidents.
Seeker. Adding an Eye of Ender would cause a "Potion Arrow" to steer
towards the nearest valid target other than the shooter. It would still
be subject to gravity and would only steer along X and Z. Not Y. Sorry,
no vertical ascension.
Ghost Strike. Anyone else think an arrow that goes through targets is what the new Spectral Arrow is for?
Stacking rule. If arrows have identical attached data they stack as normal, like fireworks do.
Adding more magic into Minecraft has always been a good idea. I could
easily cast something like this as "Bowcasting" or "Arcane Archery."
I'm really psyched for the 1.9 Combat Update and hope to shoot off some
serious combos! This post is also on Reddit so we can bring this system officially into Minecraft!

If regular is Vanilla then what flavor is your Minecraft?
Should this be moved to "Discussion?" Dinnerbone's reveals are pointing in this direction already, so it may be revealed as how things will go soon enough. Then this would be best under "Recent Snapshots." I'm really hoping for some kind of poison arrow for Creeper hunting myself. It would certainly make Music Disc collecting a lot easier!

If I helped you in any way or agree in my ideas or posts, make sure you click that green arrow pointing up below my post or simply huggle me! I use 1.7.10 (Modded), so when I comment that I like a 1.8 mod, I will comment to downgrade to 1.7.10. I support no pics, no clicks. Suggestions that I think that are the best deserves a banner!
It is almost time to say goodbye to 1.7.10 because of the recent surge of big 1.9 mods.
Why MCreator sucks: jcm2606's file (doesn't open a new tab) He allows/welcomes anyone to link the file, so I put it here in my signature for people to know how MCreator functions. I thank jcm2606 (he's awesome) for creating the document/file and I'm just here to spread the word.
Thanks for the support! On Reddit there is also a thread on recent reveals and they claim the last screenshot Searge tweeted on this shows that the 9+ new arrow types have colors that respond to potion colors. That picture is very hard to see. Anybody able to zoom it in good enough to confirm that?

Not really, as it's a group of arrow-related suggestions...
