Due to a lot of distaste in the lever variant, it has been removed from the thread to avoid further needless discussion about them. The thread name will stay like this so that those who saw the post earlier will not confuse it for a new thread.
Iron buttons function like a lever in that it sends a constant output, but they return to their off state by themselves like a button and cannot be deactivated manually. Once you press the button, it will slowly return to the off state, decreasing the redstone strength by one every second. This would allow players to make more compact self-resetting switches.
Small things like these are neat in theory, but impractical in practice because of their size, and so I thought of this.
I've also updated the post with a button variant as some may prefer their look.
Yeah, this is actually one of the better ideas on these forums. Most people just complain about stuff that isn't very realistic to add.
I really like this idea, but I do agree with a lot of the people who left their feedback, it shouldn't look like a lever. Personally, I don't think it should look like a button either, because there are already two button types. What would be really cool is a chain like the ones that can be found in Skyrim dungeons, that slowly go back up.
This is very interesting, although I like the concept more as a button. Bt that's just because the lever would require some kind of animation when slowly powering down.
One question though: how long would the lever/button stay activated, and how much does the signal degrade in that time?
I imagine that it starts with 15 redstone strength, and decreases by one every second until it reaches 0, which gives you 15 seconds to work around with, which I believe is more than enough for the scale of redstone this is intended for.
As for the lever, I agree that the button would work much better with vanilla and the feel of it.
It could be misleading to change the thread name for now though, but I will definitely remove the levers if others show distaste in them.
Thank you for leaving your feedback, and I'm glad you took your time.

Although there already is two button variants, I think that for the sake of simplicity and keeping it vanilla, it should stay as a button or a lever. As much as I love vareity, I just don't think that chains would look good with vanilla textures.

I'd go with Shaddura, tbh. levers with chains would look stupid

Quite to the contrary, most suggestions don't consider that gameplay > realism.
Quite to the contrary, most suggestions don't consider that gameplay > realism.
I believe that some degree of realism is needed to make something work.
That being the intuitive things such as buckets picking up liquids, food beingcooked in a furnace, chickens floating slightly while mid-air, cows dropping leather, sheep having wool as well as food when killed, the list goes on. All of those things are usually considered as gameplay aspects, but they're really just realistic things that are intuitive which helps improve the gameplay experience. Sure, there aren't any four legged explosive leaf creatures in real life, but if there was, I would certainly expect them to have some sort of explosive material in them. *cough* Gunpowder*
Overall, I think intuition is the most important part of gameplay, and as such realism should always be considered.
Pretty good idea. It's like a reverse weighted pressure plate.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.

I didn't mean that there should be no realism. I meant that it should be considered whether the level of realism impacts the gameplay in a negative way.
It's an interesting and neat idea. But doesn't the Iron Lever have a similar functionality to that of the Iron button? I would more likely want to see this as a button rather than a lever.

I've seen a lot of self-resetting switches, and they do require a bit of redstone.
Support; can possibly help redstone machines become more compact.

Support.
The lever and button are functionally identical, but some might prefer one over the other.
The lever isn't very popular though it seems, so I will be removing it from the thread.
I guess Kronk won't be pulling the lever anymore.
I would like something like this, support.
