The purpose of "Side Slabs" is to add a new feature for Minecraft dedicated to the building decor and design. This sways from focused points of the game. Our most recent "decor" item, the Armor Stand, was a nice feature, but it isn't completely a decor item. I believe we should get a new decor item, one different all others.
Like slabs, "Side Slabs" will take up .5000 of the 1.0000 space of each block. Side Slabs will also have the same variations are regular slabs (wooden, quartz, brick, stone, stone brick, cobblestone, etc.).
The recipe for Side Slabs will take no more than regular slabs. Side Slabs can be made by putting any material that can be made into a regular slab in a vertical line, on the left or right column of the crafting table.
This is the recipe for a Side Slab, using oak wood as an example.
Like regular slabs, the recipe for a Side Slab will give you 6 Side Slabs, depending on the material you used.
Going into appearance, Side Slabs will represent a half wall, allowing new designs on Minecraft.
A Side Slab will appear like this, using oak wood as an example.
Could be pretty cool. I can't see myself using them but then again I never really use normal slabs anyway. I wouldn't mind seeing this getting added into the game as it would add some more creative things to do design wise.
They make for wider house as doors can be at their level as opposed to cobble stone walls.
Plus, they take 2 bits (North, East, South, West) so four textures can come in one block ID. And one of the side can hold anything a block can hold (buttons, levers, wall mounted sign/banners, paintings).
For the name, I propose panel, partition or divider, or even wall - but we should change the name of cobblestone wall to something like barrier.
Or, you know, since it's the same darn model, side slab is quite understandable and will do.
I've seen this idea a while back and still, Support.
By the way, don't put the pictures in spoilers, let people see!
This would change nothing. There's no reason to change a recipe when it equal the same item either way.
You're still using 3 blocks in either recipe.
I'm not going to change it, there's no reason to change it.
If you can't stack these with regular slabs, then that may be a very good reason.

Minecraft is not medieval-themed!!! As a matter of fact, it doesn't have a set time. And when and WHY did putting reponses in the quote, especially long ones, become a trend in the Suggestions? It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!
1.9 as the combat update, hm... let's see where we can connect this two... oh yeah, use side slabs in somekind a pattern for shield, might work if you put it that way(as combat update)

Here ends my suggestion.
This would add so much variation to building design. Support.
Support. I've often wished for this to be implemented.
