Obsidian has long been something that people wanted for tools. Either stronger or faster than diamond, that is the basis of almost every single post that has the word "obsidian" in it. But I disagree with most other people. I think obsidian should be used more for weaponry. When mined, you will get a damaged obsidian block that can be crafted into 9 obsidian shards, or smelted back to normal (Credit to itakai for the idea of getting damaged obsidian). So, first, a quick background check. Obsidian has long been used for weapons, for it's unmatched cutting power. Some surgeons use obsidian tools because obsidian can cut down to the molecule. And this is why I want obsidian to be used as weapons, rather then picks, axes, etc. So first off, non obsidian weapons. One idea I had was the bludgeon, namely the knobkierrie. It would deal about 3 hearts per hit, has a long reload time of 2 seconds, breaks in about 15 hits, and knocks back opponents even farther then normal. It would be crafted like so.

Now that that is out of the way, let's get into obsidian weaponry. First up is the huitzauhqui. It deals about 4 hearts of damage, breaks in about 30 hits, and has a fast reload time of about 1 second. It would be crafted like so. (with = obsidian shard)

Also on the list is the tepoztopilli. The tepoztopilli is a a spear with diamond on the sides of the wooden spearhead. It would deal 5 hearts of damage, break in about 25 uses, has a medium reload time of 1.5 seconds, and knocks back opponents farther then normal. It would be crafted like this.

Finally, the all powerful macuahuitl. It deals 6 hearts of damage, breaks in 35 uses, and has a fast reload time of 1 second. It would be crafted like you see below.

I disagree with this. If this were to be implemented, it should drop a random number between 2-4 shards, rather than a whole 9, as 9 would very quickly reach the 64 item stack quickly, and would be the same as mining normal obsidian, with adding a process of breaking it down. Next this would require a change in code to produce a delay with the weapons (Different than the delay of tools). After that there would be absolutely no use for a weak obsidian block. And would go directly from the shards into an obsidian block, rather that a weak one.
The only real use I can see with this, aside with what you have mentioned (which I don't care for), would be to use the obsidian shards as arrowheads which do more damage.
I don't want to seem like I'm trolling, but I really don't like this idea.
I understand with what your saying. The only reason I said it drops nine is so it can be recrafted into a normal obsidian block even just by mining one.
Then why instead of having it drop 9 shards, instead have it drop "Damaged Obsidian", in which you can place into a crafting grid to get obsidian shards, or place in a furnace to receive normal obsidian
ur weapons need descriptions, and thier names are anoying and unpronounceable, I have no idea what they're meant to be, but if we made weapons, we should also get to make tools.
The reason why no tools is because obsidian is very brittle. If you tried an obsidian pick, it would break. And the names of the weapons are names of actual weapons.

Obsidian being harder than diamonds...
Never heard of the weapons. Try weapons that everyone knows, not just something thet only makes sense to a japanese history proffesor

You know little. These are Aztec mames and mostley everyone from the Western World could tell there at least North American.
Obisidan is not as hard as diamonds, nothing really is.
How come none of them use obsidian in their recipes? Also, why all the Aztec names? If they mean something fitting then fair enough, but not on a game Like Minecraft.
