but steel if the iron absorbs the ions of the lightning and you are wearing the armor doesnt that mean that you could die?.

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move

No. Lightning kills because its a massive amount of electricity going through your body and disrupting all the electrical signals in your heart and brain.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
The following types of damage are reduced by armor and, consequently, damage the armor itself:
Getting struck by lightning
That means that iron armor will block 60% of that 5 damage, meaning only 40% of it gets through - 40% of 5 is 2, or just one heart of damage. Well, maybe it is bad if that creeper that is about to explode in your face gets turned into a charged creeper but the chances of that happening are almost nonexistent.
In other words, lightning is FAR from a big threat (nor will it destroy your armor, which only loses one durability). I've also never been struck by lighting myself so as far as I'm concerned the chances of getting struck do need to be increased to make it more of a threat, although I don't think making it hit you more often because you have iron armor is the way to do it; if anything, it should block all lightning damage.

so if you w

maybe? a lot of other stuff happens though, you would probably go deaf from the sound. And the sound created generates a shockwave that has as much power as a small explosion. here is the wikipedia article on it. --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_injuries
Why would this be a good idea? I tend to use iron armor WAY more than diamond to give myself a challenge. Why would I want to have to worry about getting struck by lightning -Struck by lightning sounds pretty frightening- Anyways, NO SUPPORT.

Realism is good, but too much realism is a bad thing. A lot of metals are good conductors of electricity, this would practically discourage players from wearing armor. This would make a nice mod, though, perhaps you can learn.

How much is 5 damage? A quarter of your health? The rain will also immediately put out the fire so no harm there.
Also:

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Yes. People have been struck and survived, and they leave some wicked scars.

This.
If anything, Iron Armour should reduce the damage from lightning strikes.
