Netherbomb: a block that explodes in proximity to a Mob (or the player). If the player is far enough away they can mine it for sulfur. (the reach of the player is about 5 blocks, so I'd say the proximity should be 3) I'm thinking this could make a very useful landmine trap but I can't think of a way to craft it, and anyways it might explode as soon as the player places it.
Wraith: a mob that is intangible (can move through all blocks and mobs) and only attackable by gold weapons. it deals damage to all mobs that it comes in contact to. It is a neutral mob like pigman zombies, but is still a threat, especially if you are mining through the netherrock and find one drifting through the walls! (I can't think of a drop for it however)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.
And even though Lapiz Lazuli already kinda has the skin of Bluestone, I think that might be a good addition to the Nether.
By simply adding a "Bluestone power block" and some blocks in the Nether that switch on or off based on proximity to a BsPB, you could create some rather deadly Nether traps.
Mine the BsPB and you get Bluestone.
Could probably have Bluestone be a requirement for the base of the Aether portal (like placing Redstone where you light a Nether portal).
There's already a thread that's a decent success for Nether mobs. And I'm looking into one that might be good for some Nether specific blocks.
And the mushrooms ARE your most liked idea.
I think you should seriously focus on adding that "flavor" to the Nether. You've recreated the mushrooms of the overworld, you could still make up some Nether crops, or flowers. maybe something like reedssugar cane or cactus. Things that don't necessarily have a point but could, and add a lot of external flavor to the world.
1:Sabata
Sabata, I happily accept your apology, not reading my post is not a sin. If it wasn't an apology, then I hate you.
(A lot of my posts are jesting. It's meant to be obvious, but I'm not good at sarcasm. The part about you just being a jerk was also a jest, true or not).
Negative constructive input is rare, and it's good that you willingly donate it whether we like it or not.
I see your point about player backing. I was thinking that this would sort of "ride" on immense player backing for the Aether, but I see that might not happen, since we should get enough player backing that it wouldn't just waste Notch's time.
2:Zurich
Good, you're learning. I made a couple threads on another forum. I specifically made "suggestions" thread for a kind of small forum called "Spriter's Sanctum," with a community of 12 active members.
It ended up getting a greifer/4chaner as the head admin after the former head admin left for college. It's now dead as a doornail.
I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere...
3:Bluestone
I saw a bluestone thread here. It appears to already have good ol' player backage, so sabata has reason to suggest it. Making it appear in the Nether as for Nether-themed traps sounds diabolical, but like the smixing furnace, it'll require some hammering out and work to think of traps that could use it that way in the random generator.
One last problem: The Bluestone thread guy has the idea of just finding a way of converting redstone/bluestone back and forth. GreyAcumen posted somewhere that his idea of darkwood could be used to chill the redstone into bluestone. You'll need to make a good argument why this works better, or some sort of mutually beneficial solution.
4:Unobtainium, and trillium (Ideas I have problems with)
I can't hear "Unobtainium" without secretly gagging "Avatar reference."
Unobtainium was such a horrible gag that it ruined a whole 10 minutes of a movie I already felt guilty about enjoying, since the plot was pocohontas.
You could use it, but I personally wouldn't vote for the name. As for the effects, bluestone is already covered, like sabata said, and the others are just the "better than diamond" obsession again.
Trillium... he idea of using the ingots as currency in Pigmen villages that I've yet to see so much as conceived, that's jumping a gun. Let's them harden in a furnace is a problem, since "Ok, I put in 1 trillium ore into a the furnace, it's turned into a ingot. Ok, it's been abuot 15 minutes, and it takes 20 for ingots to harden, so I'm putting all of my ore in now. Now they're all ingots and look!"
One of the three things happens:
[*:3a4cyvxx]Through some type of magic, 1 bar becomes hardened, and goes... where?
[*:3a4cyvxx]The timer resets, no bars harden
[*:3a4cyvxx]All of the bars harden. Yay glitches!
5 Obsidianite
No.
Too confusing, no apparent good reason to. Obsidian sanctuary blocks?
In this case, I'm not asking "WHY NOT?" but "WHY?"
6 Wraithes and Netherbombs
Netherbombs, a cool idea. The idea of something reacting based on nearby motion is cool, and would have applicable uses. Maybe this could be somehow used in conjunction with the BsPB that Sabata proposed and acronym'd in a weird way. (Some sort of motion sensor, bluestone blocks, bang?). The only problem I foresee is that it seems that most block's behavoir is based on "updates," which either occurs randomly, or when a block nearby changes in some way. I don't know if this could be used to make a code that makes a block that explodes/reacts when a player comes close. You might be able to use mob's aggro code somehow though...
Wraithes seem like a cool idea. Mobs and blocks can coexist, and so do mobs I believe. However, there needs to be some sort of limitation, besides being generally neutral. Either make it so that they are pretty weak, or that there is at least one block that can be used as "insulation."
Also, I don't know if you realized this, but zombie pigmen carry gold swords. If a wraith bumps a pigmen, the pigmen should logically be able to attack back. Whichever one wins is not the point, but this could be used to show the players that there is a way to kill them, using gold weapons (plus, this would explain why pigmen use/have gold swords).

in sweden they call tungsten for wolfram
Tungsten is the element name, Wolfram is what it was called originally since it was found in wolframite.
I don't know if you are suggesting wolframite, but looking at pictures, it looks pretty cool, since it's a type of crystal. That would be a good use of flavor for the Nether too, yellow crystals. It's rare that something actually "adds flavor" (and satisfies sabata) making the game more fun, and also makes the game more realistic, since tungsten ore actually is wolframite.
Oh, this subforum is for suggesting things to put into the main game? Not just things that are for "Wouldn't it be cool if..." or suggestions for modders to take advantage of?
Either way, there are a few people in here devoting too much time to naysaying. Unless you want the idea to change for the better, it's pointless to stalk this thread and naysay everything that is happening. Let bad ideas go away on their own, and quit bumping.
I still like the ideas of ores in the Nether. The naming chaos going on right now is a bit annoying though...
like this idea, expecially the metals since we need more. I do believe that the color of the glow the mushrooms would give off is impossible with the current Minecraft.

Yep.
Alright, guys... I'm having a few more concepts, but I won't be adding them to the main page until they've had time to simmer in the pot.
I really like a lot of these ideas, so I'm going to expand upon some of them.
Trillium caught my ear... or should I say my eye... although like Xen said already... it wouldn't work well. I think it would be good if you had to put it through the furnace twice... that would be cool. For example, the first time you put it through the furnace it 'smelts' into an ingot and is usable at the level of iron. Then, if you put it back in the furnace and smelted it a second time, the product would be a harder ingot, being as hard as stone except indestructable. I also liked the idea that it had to use its own material to make a hilt as apposed to wood... that would make crafting with the material expensive. If made into a block also, it should be indestructable by ghast fireballs. Now... I know we've been having a rename-it-war, so I'll negotiate this point peacefully. LOL. I think it should be given a different name, I think Durolithium. Two reasons: 1.) Trillium is a type of flower that grows in Asia. 2.) Duro in latin means to harden and endure, also Duo in latin means two. Durolithium = A metal that takes twice the time to smelt in order to make a durable material.
I also recently thought of another magical stone. Thermosatite. This would come in the form of a block instead of an ore vein. Its as hot as magma and takes half the time of stone to mine... but it does more damage to your tool than usual. This would be the material to use in order to make the Magma sword. It would also be useful for traps and another lighting tool. It forms at the edge of lava pools... rarely. -Also could be a drop for the Lava monster.
I really like the idea of a Nether Bomb... that would make the Nether just that more difficult, and would keep a challenge in the Nether even in Peaceful difficulty mode.
I also liked what Sabata said about things that should GROW in the Nether... like crops in comparison to sugar cane and cacti. I've been kicking around the concept of a plant called Saphrophyte. It's a biological term for a plant that can grow without sunlight, getting any energy from decayed biological matter. It would grow on soulmud. I have no idea what it should look like, however, and I am currently looking into details to research about this plant. But its an idea.
Lost Miner: I see what your talking about with the glowing feature of the Mushrooms. The pictures that I show on the front page are example pictures, just to give an idea. You can use the current minecraft programming to do something similar, because it would act like a redstone torch and light the ground only, not in an aura like how I've displayed in the image.

1)This kind of confuses me. "Being as hard as stone, except indestructible" and "is usable at the level of iron." Please clarify.
2)I laughed at the asian flower thing. Also, you can't really count duo in there, so you still need to add it. How about "Durodilithium?" using "di" which also means two.

Well, first of all, let me clarify on "Durodium", -which is what I think it should be called at this point, but I'm sure there's going to be a catch someone will come up with. Not that that's particularly bad, but it does get frustrating.
Durodium is the concept I came up with to re-represent the idea of Trillium. What I was trying to say was this:
There are three stages to Durodium.
1.) It would be as rare as diamond in the Nether, and found in the form of a vein block. It would have to be mined and collected. Then, it would have to be smelted, -like all other ores. It would, in my mind, become an orangeish-silvery ingot which is called the SOFT Durodium ingot.
2.) A SOFT ingot would simply work like Iron does. Can use it to make tools and building blocks. At first, this seems like a stupid implementation, and you may ask, "why not just mine for iron in the overworld right?" Well, hang on, because you can smelt it a second time... making a HARD Durodium ingot which is orangish-gold in color.
3.) A HARD Durodium ingot is special. When made into a tool or weapon, it never gains any damage... however, the ingot loses some of its effectiveness for mining during the second smelting process, therefore it is only as powerful as a stone tool. So... this HARD ingot can make a great tool to mine stone and iron, as well as be used for everyday digging, farming and chopping. But it is ineffective in mining precious stones... such as gold, redstone, lapis lazuli, and diamond. The amazing thing is, however, that it is an eternal tool... so long as it isn't lost or dissolved by lava. These ingots can also be made into blocks that are removable but indestructable... so if you make it into a building block, its permanently a building block, you can't turn it back into ingots again. However, a Hard Durodium building block makes a good shield against ghast fire.
There are too many ores that are as rare as diamond or rarer. We need some more common ore.
But as for durodium:
1)Make soft durodium more special. None of the blocks Notch made are "worthless." No player says "Oh look at all this _____. I have no need for this, let's incinerate it." There were a few items at one point, but now with the dispenser, the bows have more purpose.
2)I wouldn't have originally thought anything wrong with indestructible weapons, but I saw somewhere somebody make this point:If you do, you get a sort of sand-complex with all stone tools and such: What do I do with the leftover cobblestone/durodium? Once you amass enough, the stuff is completely worthless. I don't need any stone tools anymore, and I rarely will need a stronger tool,I'll only need it for ore.
A good example is the bow. It was indestructible. So, after making one, all the string and other bows became useless for anything besides backups, until the Dispenser came out. Possibley one reason there is only one type of bow is because Notch doesn't want to make it destructible, but if he makes multiple indestructible bow types, the lower-teir ones become worthless.
Also, I'd like you to consider the wolframite idea I proposed.

1.) You're right about soft durodium needing a more specific purpose because 1, it will give people reason to go find Durodium besides having indestructible items and 2, will give people plenty reason to use it... especially when you don't need it anymore for making fresh Hard Durodium.
2.) If I make Soft Durodium special, there will still be a need to mine for it in the Nether, so that illiminates the catch with indestrucitible items. -_< *wink. I disagree also with the sand-complex argument, because you still use stone, iron, gold and diamond for other reasons besides weapons and tools... you build stuff with it, and you'll always need armor. DURODIUM DOES NOT MAKE ARMOUR... BECAUSE IT CAUSES RASHES WHEN TOUCHED TO THE SKIN... or something like that. So you're still in need of these materials. Also, I have died several times in the game when carrying loads of goods and precious items... & I never got them back. There will still be reasons to make indestructables again, I can assure you. Plus, it will take a long time for players to find Durodium, that's why it would be a rare ore.
I still think an indestructable item like this would be good. I honestly see no hickups when looking at the big picture. Therefore I stand by my previous suggestion.
Now, what to do with SOFT Durodium. I need to find a purpose for it besides being another Iron ore.
I'll come up with something else for a common ore for the Nether too... because I agree, also, that there are too many rare ores. Also, Wolframite could become the common mineral for the Nether... what do you think about that?
Lava sponge... hmmm... that's cool. But have it be blackish instead of yellow.
BY THE WAY EVERYONE, HERE IS THE PROTOTYPE BANNER:
I love the banner, but where did you get it? Did you make it, and if you did, how did you show it on the forum? I've never really taken the time to learn how.
Just reading through your ideas and I like them. The only thing I don't like is the fact the new ores you are suggesting can only be mined with a diamond pickaxe. I've been to the nether realm before but I've never found a single diamond [I did the lava and water technique to make a portal], I know many others that have done the same, so it would be a disadvantage. But that's my only minor peeve with your idea. I can understand why you've said that due to their rarity and what-not, but maybe gold should be a resource that could mine one of them to maybe give Gold a bit more of a use?
However I really like those mushrooms idea I'd love to throw some of them into my base, the neon colours and low light would give a great atmosphere in areas made with obsidian.
Just an 'out there' suggestion to throw in, perhaps you could use the mushrooms and glass to make lava lamps that give off a little more light? Like craft them in the crafting box like so; [purple being the purple 'Nethershrooms' you suggested]
Erm, yeah..I did search up Trillium and get the flower. I just shouted "Screw realism" and got typing..we're in Hell right?
Thanks for criticism on the hardening idea. Maybe not so much as a day to have a bar harden in the furnace, maybe double the time it takes to actually smelt one?
I've already suggested an alternative... I thought it would be good to have to smelt it twice. The first time upon smelting, it could be used as a soft ingot, the second time its smelted, it could be used as a hard ingot.

Yes. I made it. First I uploaded it onto Image Shack, then I opened the uploaded image into a separate window, then I copied the url, and then put it into the post with the "Img" button option. It's at the top, on the toolbar with all the other buttons whenever you post anything.

4)Sounds intriguing.
5) Good.
Alright.

Yes... I have looked at it my friend. What if we joined forces?
