Just reading through your ideas and I like them. The only thing I don't like is the fact the new ores you are suggesting can only be mined with a diamond pickaxe. I've been to the nether realm before but I've never found a single diamond [I did the lava and water technique to make a portal], I know many others that have done the same, so it would be a disadvantage. But that's my only minor peeve with your idea. I can understand why you've said that due to their rarity and what-not, but maybe gold should be a resource that could mine one of them to maybe give Gold a bit more of a use?
However I really like those mushrooms idea I'd love to throw some of them into my base, the neon colours and low light would give a great atmosphere in areas made with obsidian.
Just an 'out there' suggestion to throw in, perhaps you could use the mushrooms and glass to make lava lamps that give off a little more light? Like craft them in the crafting box like so; [purple being the purple 'Nethershrooms' you suggested]

Thankyou for commenting. I'm in the current process of conceptualizing another mineral that doesn't require a diamond tool. I think it will be wolframite... however I'm looking for details on how it should be used.
What about a mineral that spreads fire 5 blocks in every direction when stepped on/broken/activated by redstone.
It would be very hell worthy, and would make the nether just a little more dangrous.

Good idea. I thought of something similar... called Thermositite. Right here:
"...I also recently thought of another magical stone. Thermosatite or Lavastone. This would come in the form of a block instead of an ore vein. Its as hot as magma and takes half the time of stone to mine... but it does more damage to your tool than usual. This would be the material to use in order to make the Magma sword. It would also be useful for traps and another lighting tool. It forms at the edge of lava pools... rarely. -Also could be a drop for the Lava monster." -JAN 21
Adding redstone to activate it would be a neat idea... but since it can't be touched, (because it burns,) turning it on and off would have to be done with a switch or button and redstone wiring. Also, it's like lava. Even if its off, don't place it near trees, or anything that catches on fire easy... otherwise it will burst into flames. Also it would melt snow and ice up to five blocks.
Common wolframite would be cool. But if you didn't notice, we mentioned wolframite would be tungsten ore's replacement, since wolframite IS tungsten ore in the form of quartz. As such, tungsten's abilities would need to reflect it. (I.E. Mining it would give you wolframite ore, and With the addition of carbon, mixing the two (carbon and ingots) would make making tungsten carbide at least semi-rare, but not rare enough to qualify as diamond. Smelted wolframite would give you a tungsten ingot. However, since it requires a mob-drop to combine with a smelted ore, it would at least be rare enough to do something pretty cool. Magma swords would need some other slightly rarer ingredient to be included with the ingot to make fiery tungsten ingots, like mixing it with a bucket of magma.
As for resisting Ghast fireballs, anything with a block resistance of 22 or higher will resist. This includes steel doors, slabs, bricks, and jukeboxes.
Ramstone:
*When in contact with fire (or lava) it will rocket off away from the source, only stopping when it reaches 10 blocks away from the heat source. If the block itself is on fire, it will move 20 blocks in the opposite direction from the fire and then the fire will go out.
*Any mobs (or player) who is in its path is pushed the entire distance, and with the velocity of Ramstone they will slide an additional 3 blocks after it stops. If it hits a block it won't break it, but will damage anyone it was pushing into the wall.
*If the player is on top of it, it will move out from under them. However if the heat source is under the block it will move up, pushing the player upwards (and even throwing them).

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.
Zurich, I have a question, can you perhaps make me a banner for my idea? My mac doesn't have any great photoshop programs so I can't make one, would you be able to make me one? Sorry to bug you it's just my idea for oil just isn't getting much attention other than when I bump it.
-Oil, as the one over me mentioned, could be found in big, round underground lakes in The Nether. It would be cool to swim across an Oil lake to get to a Green-Glowing Mushroom and hear a Ghast firing at you... ****! Swim like hell before the fire gets you!
-a Hades biome. With a black/dar grey colored block type as ground and random blue fires instead of the regular ones. There could be some type of liquid that is Souls that float around as a lake. When you fall into the Soul liquid you'd be dragged down, with almost no chance off survival.
-2 new mobs for the Hades biome. One would be a Shade: it would fly around like a human-sized Ghast and swoop down at you when it sees you. It could drop it could maybe Bones or a Skull Torch (more of that later).
The other mob would be a robe-clad Skeleton that float around over the Souls on a 2x4 boat. They wouldn't attack unless attacked first, and would dock at the shore if you stood close enough, letting you ride with him. If attacked, it would shoot red arrows or possibly Soul Arrows (more about that later). When killed it would drop Arrows/Skull Arrows and Bones.
-New "Hades" items. Skull Torches is an item that could be dropped by the Shades. It would create a blue flame that when it sets a mob on fire, would be able to spread on to other things from the mob. The Skull Arrows could be either made by crafting an Arrow with a Skull Torch instead of Flint, or it could be dropped by the Soul Sailors. When it hits a mob it would set it on fire (the blue kind) and it would turn the mob against everything, making it attack the mob or player closest to it.
Netherslick was suggested somewhere and it sounds a lot like oil but looks much cooler. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=140956
Ooze: found naturally only in the Nether, it grows like wheat. However, it only grows on gravel and only when there is lava nearby (like wheat does on dirt with water). The seeds can be smelted to make black ink (an easier alternative to farming squids) and the ooze itself can be smelted into oil (and all that entails).

hey im adding this to my clans mob/item idea list.
(your name is by the link so no one can take credit for your ideas)
just say if this bothers you.
Hey man... thanks for your support. I Appreciate it. However, I would like to specify that not all of these ideas were completely mine, a lot was inspired and even restated taken from other threads. But thanks a bunch.

Sure. What is it that you're looking for? PM me some details on how it should look and when I've finished I'll post it directly onto your thread. (be sure to direct me to your thread.) -_<
Titanium is only a bit stronger than steel, and is much lighter than steel. Mincrafts capability with furnaces wont get neer enough to make a Titanium Pickaxe. Fo true Rarity and Strength, go with Tungsten. Titanium oxide is also one of the most common Substances on earth.
And in real life, Obsidian is a very, very brittle and breakable sharp volcanic rock that, if pressure is applied, breaks like glass. Not a very hard indestructible material.

I think they look good, and they will catch attention. I will have the main page look as good as these when I have finished all the graphics. So here:
Everyone advertise! Thanks.

I think the purple mushroom should look like it's glowing purple, but actually emit darkness. Just because it would look cooler.
I LOVE THE NETHER! UPDATE IT PLEASE!
and is better for glowing then

Love the idea.
Thankyou for being so reasonably down to earth.
