The ONLY thing I like from this thread are the fluorescent mushrooms. Not the crafting recipes for them, but the mushrooms themselves.
I don't like the idea of a new mineral that is just another tier.
I don't like the idea of a new mineral that is just a smaller portal.
Those "additions" don't expand the definition of the Nether, they just take things from the Overworld and plop them in the nether. (there are no Ores in the suggested Aether)
Wow. You weren't kidding when you said brutally... Well, at least you're honest.
But why be such a in the :sand:? Think about this with an open mind.
It doesn't sound like you've read my post thread thoroughly, it sounds like you skimmed over it and guessed at what I was trying to say. If you had read it word for word, you might have noticed the true complexity and unique purpose of these minerals. They are more than just a few new tools or nice decorative blocks... these minerals really do improve the game, and the Nether. I have to thank my commenters for their originiality, a lot of it is by them which I have adopted on their behalf.
There are actually four blocks that we are talking about here:
1.) Tungsten Alloy - Can be used to create better tools and special furnaces that can mix-smelt two materials into a combination material.
2.) Carbon - As hard as obsidian but semi-transparent, like ice. Good for shaded windows.
3.) Charoite - Crystals of Magical properties.
4.) Sanctuary block: Made of nine charoite crystals... keeps monster mobs away in a 16 block radius.
This isn't cool? Well ok then. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? If you know something better, then lay it on me, cause I'd like to know.
Crafted with diamonds: Top teir of armor. Can also be made into jukeboxes, or prestigious blocks.
None of this is really all that amazingly new or great.
Mining in the Nether would be more difficult than in the Overworld, so I'm fine with some special super-rare block. But this just seems overdoing it. Flaming magma swords which set things on fire, ok, that's cool. But then you ALSO make special confusing "carbide" tools that affect didn't blocks differently, twice as well as diamonds or as badly as a wood pick. Not only that, but you make a "mixing" furnace. That would be fine if there was anything that had mix-smelting recipes, but you don't list any, link to any, and even if you did it would be an entire new game mechanic.
I'm fine with the Magma sword, if you make the damage less than a diamond sword (Otherwise, the fire is redundant). That's cool, sweet, sexy, all of that. Smelting tungsten ore into ingots which can make a magma sword would be awesome and totally worth it. It actually works too, its the 2nd highest element on the chart of "Very high melting points." It isn't that durable, definitely not more than diamond, so it would make more sense than powerful tools (raw tungsten is very brittle, pure tungsten can be cut with a saw). I'm probably not thinking the game implications of this through, but I like it.
The smixing furnace is just plain too complicated, at least for now when we're about to ask Notch to add an Aether.
You mean Carbon minerals? Then why does Carbon make Tungsten Carbide strong?
That's an ionic compound (You can tell by the name. I just learned this a few weeks ago in H. Chem). The structure of the molecule is changed. It's like graphite and diamond: The only difference is the structure (and in this case, another atom).
When you mix copper and tin, both weak metals, it makes bronze, which is stronger than both of them... well, put together doesn't make sense, but you know what I mean.
There is a term for this, but I forgot it. Ionic compounds are usually pretty strong anyways, or brittle.
Edit: He beat me to the punch. But I like my explanation better anyway. Mine has better grammars.

- I specifically didn't list any because it would be a new game mechanic and would take time for me to think about. It sounded cool and new, so I added it as a POSSIBILTY.
This is rich.
REMEMBER. -THESE ARE ALL ONLY SUGGESTIONS. And a lot of them have been created by the commenters themselves, like you... I simply adopt them.
I didn't realize that the criticism bomb was so popular on Minecraftforums. Come on people... you're trying to make all this perfectly realistic. Minecraft is simply unrealistic! Floating building blocks are a perfect example.
Plus, I've already visited and read that wikipedia page.
But thankyou for observing the concept of the Magma sword. I think it is good, the idea just needs a little more cultivating. I'm glad you at least appreciated the idea about using the hot Tungsten ores to make the magma sword. But in this case, you would just use the regular to smelt it. The magma sword should last a bit longer than a gold sword would, but not as long as Iron, I guess somewheres in-betwixt. It should be as damaging as an Iron Sword.

I like yours better also.
You're all a bunch of science nerds.
Honestly though, I appreciate the guidance.
So... what would you make it then? Should I just take the idea of an ore in the Nether completely out?
Tungsten, but use it to make incandescent bulbs, not the new ones, but really old looking vaccum tube ones, they could be strung together and placed on walls for switchable lights and computer displays. Chaoite is a little random, maybe it could be something else with more relation to the idea of minecraft, although I do like it as a teleporter, maybe resetting spawn too? :smile.gif:
You added a bunch of stupid new ****, I no longer like this thread. I still think that the nether needs to have some sort of rare mineral or metal in it that is used to change the spawn, and lightbulbs still need to be added in some way, but the new ideas that you have are just excessive and complex.
Carbon would have to be a gas (So Co2 is Possible)
Hydrogen and Oxygen would have to be liquid.
Chlorine and Sodium would have to have the properties of Salt, or Salt would have to be Explosivie an Posioness.
Every element you listed is a solid, liquid, or gas at different temperatures and pressures, it's just the nature of their bonding which changes the nature of their outer valence and density, responsible for most of their interactions.

Well... I'm sorry you don't like the thread anymore. I added new stuff because I was trying to take everyone's advise into account... they aren't really all my ideas. Some of these are commenter's thought.
Obviously, I've already realized that its too complex, you're right. I think I'm going to cut it down to simply the mushrooms, and get more detailed about what they would do. I think I bit off more than I could chew.
You can't just take ideas and regurgitate them onto your front page.
Yes these are just suggestions, but if you expect people to wade through the crap to find the gold you don't know how a "revamp" thread like this should go.

I was very hasty, I admit, because I had got so many replies. I was excited... won't happen again. I see the error of my silly ways.
Must you have to be such a Nazi, though? Relax, this is an open forum dude... plus, it is MY thread.

Thanks! I appreciate the enthusiastic, positive remark.
All Carbon objects accept for Nanotubes and Diamonds are weak, and not transparent.
Diamonds: Most rare block in the game

You mean Carbon minerals? Then why does Carbon make Tungsten Carbide strong?
Because molocules are different then other things.
If it had to be true that Carbon had to be strong to make Tungsten Carbide strong then:
Carbon would have to be a gas (So Co2 is Possible)

COBBLESTONE FTW!
My youtube
OK. It was just a wrinkle. Just a suggestion... NO ONE HAS TO ACCEPT OR LIKE IT.
1.) NOTCH IS GOING TO DO WHAT HE WANTS, ANYWAY.
2.) EVERYONE'S GOING TO DISAGREE ON SOMETHING.
3.) THESE ARE SUGGESTIONS ONLY.
Hmmm. Maybe I should change this thread to focus on Florescent Mushrooms. People really like that one idea.
