Beehives. They spawn once in a while on trees, and are only dangerous if you hit them.
Also, beehives can be impaled on arrows. When shot, it explodes into a swarm of angry bees that swarm/attack the closest player/mob. Because I really ****ing want to launch beehives through peoples windows and down mineshafts
Could also be conveniently utilized for the reproduction of flowers. If you could collect the hive, just stick it someplace close to where a couple of flowers are growing.
I have just been searching through this suggestion forum until I noticed "BEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS"
THIS IS A BRILLIANT IDEA :smile.gif:
Low % chance (but not too low) for hive to spawn on side of tree trunk (maybe replace leaf block, night or day)
Bees (as additional particle animation like water splash/smoke) attack in response (like spiders at day)
Obviously bees fly (perhaps with maximum block radius from BEE HIVE)
Respond if touched AND if hit by arrow (additional brilliant idea)
Attacks nearest good or bad mob or player (nearest creature of any type)
If nearest creature is mounted - would attack the RIDER (not the mount)
One bee swarm hit takes half a heart per hit
Not sure on how often they 'hit' (needs game play balance testing)
Once their 'chosen' (initially closest target) is OUT OF RANGE or DEAD they return to the BEE HIVE
HIVE can be harvested for HONEY (new food item - may be used in future food recipes?)
When harvested, drops single HIVE (like mining ore, stackable to 64 - but not a common resource)
HIVE can be thrown like SNOWBALLS and EGGS.
HIVE is DESTROYED when thrown (counts as a destroyed/harvested hive - same BEE SWARM time out)
HIVE releases BEE SWARM wherever it hits/lands and "explodes" (same rules as touched/hit HIVE)
HIVE cannot be PLACED (only stored - not a building block)
HIVE can be crafted into honey (like SUGAR CANE - 1 HIVE =4 honey (game play balance?)
Honey replenishes HALF health (1/2 heart) and can be stacked in inventory/crate...
Cannot kill BEE SWARM, perhaps they time out after hive destroyed
(e.g. set time - then they disappear / fly away)
This could encourage tricks to harvest honey by using mobs to distract bees
New item summary:
BEE HIVE - single block attached to tree trunk (maybe replaces leaf block) with low spawn % chance (night or day)
BEE SWARM - attack closest target if hive touched or hit in any way - maximum radius, return to hive...
HONEY - 4 harvest from "crafting" BEE HIVE, half health when eaten (somewhat rare but STACKABLE - e.g. up to 64)
A few recipe ideas:
- BEE STING CAKE - Replace existing cake recipe 2x SUGAR with 2x HONEY - SAME CAKE RULES (just looks different)
- HONEY MUSHROOM SOUP - Add 2x honey to existing mushroom soup to sweeten (double soup health)

I actually like this idea. I didn't read Varian's post, so if this was already said, sorry.
The best part of this idea would be that it would A) Make mining tree's more difficult and :cool.gif: Turn down griefing. Why not have it that these bees are actually quite hidden with the leaves of a tree. That way if you destroy a tree's trunk, as the leaves fall, the beehive can actually drop down from the leaves and break open. A swarm of bees can attack you.

Actually I think it should be like this:
AI for bees and beehive spawn is good (I was thinking leaves)
Bees have 1 and 1/2 hp per swarm, a hive is like a mob spawner for bees
Beehive can be placed
Beehive behaves like chest when right clicked, spawns 3 honey every minecraftian day
Beehive has 18 slots, so 6 days to fill it with honey
If not your crosshair is not aiming at a specific block (black outline) right clicking will throw
Beehive can break windows
Bees do 1 hp every time they sting you
If you are wearing a wool suit, (old leather armor crafting recipe using wool) bees do 0 damage to you, and cannot damage suit, but wool suit is useless against anything else
Honey + bread = honeybread = 4.5 health (.5 hp more than grilled pork)
Honeybread crafting recipe:

This is beautiful...
But only have them spawn on higher difficulties AND make the bees have about 30-50 block radius.
Yes, as the hive REPLACES a leaf block (attached to the tree trunk).
It could be included in the leaf block (removal/sapling drop)* code to drop if the trunk is removed.
Then, same rules as if it was thrown - destroys itself and 'pisses off' the BEE SWARM.
So even if you were careful cutting down the tree and not touching (same code as touching redstone) or hitting the HIVE you could easily be attacked by the BEE SWARM.
I did think about 'shaking the tree' = same as touched (by hitting the tree trunk at all)
However, this is probably over the top and too much extra coding for one little thing.
AWESOME !!!!
The extra tension when 'adventuring' and wood cutting sounds GREAT
The ability to hurl a bee hive at mobs (or another player if PVP ever comes out) - ECSTATIC

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am an "alphite" (purchased minecraft during "alpha" release and proud of it!)
I have read almost EVERY post on the idea of BEES, BEE HIVES, FARMING (BEES) etc...
Using almost everyone's ideas combined with my own, I have come up with what I currently believe is the 'almost' perfect introduction and rule set for BEES. It will eventually include the following items and blocks:
- BEE HIVE (low chance % spawned on trees, replaces leaf block, can be hard to see behind other leaves at times)
- BEES (particle graphics like splashes with swarm movements)
- HONEYCOMB ("crafted" from BEE HIVE) can EAT as HONEYCOMB (1 health/heart)
- HONEY ("crafted" from HONEYCOMB) can EAT as HONEY (1 health/heart), used for recipe additions
- BEES WAX (left over from HONEYCOMB when HONEY is removed) future uses in recipes
(e.g. CANDLES, last longer than torches? but not as long as future LANTERNS that I am guessing will need IRON)
- APIARY ("crafted" from WOOD PLANKS and HONEYCOMB) to farm HONEYCOMB and FLOWERS
I will eventually do a much larger post (on all relevant forum threads - and include links to all existing threads)
explaining all the rules etc... that I have come up with (e.g. how BEES behave)
So far, I have completed the following graphics (using photoshop)... BEE HIVE (generated block, cannot be placed - but can be thrown /bee swarm grenade)
front 64x side 64x top 64x base 64x
3D block (roughly how it would look in game)
inventory item drop from BEE HIVE block
64x 32x 16x
The BEE HIVE was drawn from scratch after researching natural bee hives.
I decided to combine both natural and the recognised comical bee hive image for fast in game recognition.
The shading helps to create a rounded look, the greenish shade is to help blend with leaves a little.
A BEE HIVE would only generate on tree trunks (replacing leaf block) on NORMAL or HARD mode.
BEE HIVE to drop a BEE HIVE item (not as a block) like COAL/RESTONE ORE does in the game.
BEE HIVE cannot be placed (not a block once harvested - like COAL)
It can be "crafted" to gain 4x HONEYCOMB (see below).
BEE HIVE item can be thrown like SNOWBALLS and EGGS.
If thrown, acts like a grenade and the BEES will attack - same rules as if hit/touched on tree.
Is destroyed if thrown. Is destroyed if fallen from tree (by removing trunk) and acts as thrown.
BEE SWARM will attacked CLOSEST creature (player/mob) with a 20 block radius sphere.
BEE SWARM hits take half health (1/2 heart) with speed of hits to be determined.
CLOTH ARMOUR causes hits to do no damage (ZERO) but hits do count for durability.
Safe in water, BEE SWARM will wait for you / follow you at water surface within their zone/range.
BEE SWARM times out after set/random time to be determined (for game play balance).
They then return to their BEE HIVE - or disappear if BEE HIVE is destroyed)
The HONEYCOMB was drawn using a photo of real honeycomb.
The BEES WAX is a modified HONEYCOMB to depict the loss of honey.
I kept the shape so it was recognisable, not just another white blob.
I figured it would be reshaped when used in crafting (e.g. to make a CANDLE with STRING).
The HONEY was drawn from scratch - decided not to use jars (for game play reasons and similar to DYE).
The BEE HIVE item was modified from the block image with little bees added :smile.gif:
APIARY (crafted from plenty of WOOD PLANKS and HONEYCOMB)
front 64x side 64x top 64x base 64x
3D block (roughly how it would look in game)
inventory (minecraft generated example)
64x 32x 16x
The APIARY was heavily researched for design and materials used.
Wood was always stated to be the best material. The removable frame design would use plenty of wood.
Notice there are 9 visible frame tops = matches the 9x slots for HONEYCOMB generation.
This also helped match the resource cost for game play (of course, wood can be farmed / renewable).
The original WOOD PLANKS graphics was used from Dante80s ALBION 64x texture pack.
However, I think this graphic was used from someone else's work until he made his own.
It was then heavily modified and pixel painted to create the design for the APIARY.
CRAFTING (using crafting image from the ALBION pack)
BEE HIVE = 4x HONEYCOMB
(BEE HIVE image would be an item, not a block).
A: HONEYCOMB = 1x HONEY
B: Removal of HONEY from HONEYCOMB leaves BEES WAX (like using MILK from a BUCKET when making cake)
6x WOOD PLANK + 3x HONEYCOMB = 1x APIARY (supposed to be expensive; game play balance)
Apiary would then act like a hive (i.e. BEES) but could be removed and placed like a WORKBENCH/FURNACE.
Contains 9x slots (matches 9x frames) that SLOWLY generate HONEYCOMB (can get full = HONEYCOMB wasted).
Speed modified by number of flowers in range (same range as BEE SWARM attack e.g. 20 block radius sphere)
Flowers can slowly by chance duplicate on adjacent (or up to 3?) blocks.
(bee pollination: = or = )
CLOTH/WOOL ARMOUR
Made same as other armour, just with CLOTH (or COLOURED WOOL, whatever the name).
Yes, can be made in all the colours, this could be fun in itself (different colours for helmet, shoes...).
ONLY CLOTH ARMOUR can protect from BEE SWARM (ZERO damage from BEE SWARM hits)
BEE SWARM hits cause HALF HEALTH (1/2 heart) damage with no effect from other armour.
Speed of bee hit to be worked out for game play balance - bees have a maximum radius from the hive.
Water will save you (unless you get out), running far enough will save you, attack times out (return to hive).
NO (ZERO) or almost NO protection from MOBS and has similar or equal durability to Leather armour.
SMOKER (item/weapon/tool) will use 6x IRON and 1x TORCH
It will use STICKS as "ammo" (like the BOW uses ARROW ammo from your inventory).
I chose sticks due to their appropriate size and extra step to craft.
WOOD PLANKS are too large for fuel; COAL would be a waste (single use) and not that accurate for a SMOKER.
BEES cannot be killed, but can be SMOKED (causes them to be stunned allowing safe BEE HIVE harvest).
Other mobs could also be stunned allowing easier escape.
The SMOKER is required to harvest HONEYCOMB from the APIARY.
Touch, hit or right click (without SMOKER) on an APIARY only upsets the BEES (causing an attack).
A right click with a SMOKER will open the 9x box and allow harvest (stuns bees; puts them to sleep for set time).
The Apiary would smoke for a little while to allow multiple access for a set period of time (and looks cool).
RECIPES with HONEY no graphics done, only ideas - honey is more of a food enhancer
1x HONEY on 1x BREAD (1 extra health point - new item)
2x HONEY added to 1x MUSHROOM SOUP (2 extra health points - new item)
NEW CAKE (BEE STING?) - replace SUGAR with HONEY in existing cake recipe (same health, new item) I already had these ideas AND others have already mentioned some of these. NOT STEALING, JUST COMBINING/SHARING etc... that's what this forum us for :smile.gif:

those blocks are way to detailed to fit into minecraft.
Try making each face 16x16 pixels.
I currently use a 64x64 texture pack and mod.
If you look below I have also created 32x32 and 16x16 graphics with front/side/top/base in the one image.
Therefore, the block graphics have been created for 16x16 AND 32x32 AND 64x64.
The items are @ 32x32 and can easily be scaled to 16x16 (just 50% size and they still look okay)
Thanks for the feedback anyway though :smile.gif:

Try making each face 16x16 pixels.
I think we're going to have to let this one go. It;s worth it for the title alone.
