How is it a harder platform to access? I got in there easy.
Well it's just that the majority of people who play minecraft and are even a little Internet savvy will get a forums account, but only people who are serious about their ideas tend to go to reddit. Of course there are exceptions, reddit has no0bs too. But mojang still listens to reddit more than its own forums, which is kind of really sad, but true unfortunately.

How is the progress on this thing coming? I also had the idea that this could work for actual Elevators in the game, right? I mean a vertical rail would essentially have this effect right? If you can make a special "cart" or platform that can slide along the rail right?
most things in game have more than one purpose and will be useful to completely different players. upside-down rails have a single purpose - thrill-inducing ride; i have no desire to jump on. vertical rails would in addition have another possible purpose - easy and comfortable(?) vertical elevators (which would turn me by 90 degrees); that too i don't want in game.
as a mod, this would be good i support the idea, although i wouldn't use the mod. i don't see myself making roller-coasters.
as a suggestion to include in game itself - no support, sorry.

Rails aren't just used for roller-coasters and thrill rides sticky rails could be used for making a railway system going down the wall of your quarry system or going up the mountain to reach your base.

Why should rails be made sticky? They are "sticky" already, that's the whole point of rails. You connect the train or the cart with the wheels on the rails and there you go. Putting glue on rails is like giving a lion a sword, or a turtle a shield, or a classic dragon a flame-thrower.
Or do you really believe that the cars are glued on the rails on rollercoasters? Or that you could even ride a train or cart if there was actual glue on the rails?
You're kidding, right?
You mean like giving a skeleton a bow and arrow? Or a dust that generates electricity?
It doesn't make sense to need glue for making a looping, especially not in Minecraft where gravity is just more of an opinion anyway. And in Minecraft slime is sticky: you can make sticky pistons with it and let it carry a lot of blocks when moving. Even mobs walk slower on it. So it would be inconsistent if you could suddenly ride through slime without getting stuck (and yes, you can bounce on it because it is elastic, but you can still not jump higher because of the stickyness).
The laws of nature in Minecraft are maybe different then on earth, with extraterrestrial mobs and materials, but they are still quite consistent with each other or are at least supposed to be.
The slime was used as a crafting element. Because, you know, there ARE NO NAILS in MC. No screws. Nothing to adhere things upside down.
You really are missing the point of this suggestion.
I don't have a Reddit account either...
maybe I will at some point.
I'm almost completely inactive, in case you're trawling through really old threads and notice me somewhere.
Reddit's a scary place, but usually gets more attention from mojang as it's a harder platform to access which usually results in more serious posters

Simplistic, useful, resourceful. I love it! +1 supporter.
I think I found something slightly...
... insane.
What's happened to the mod that someone was making?
Please don't PM me asking for help, I will just redirect you to the appropriate forum, where there are others who are far more skilled than me.

i find ganymede's sticky rails useful (mod for 1.7.10, link: http://ganys-surface.wikia.com/wiki/Slow_Rail) for emptying carts, but this, not really.
