We've all been there, right? The time where you have so much coal/iron/redstone/etc., yet it's too tedious or boring to convert them into blocks via crafting table! Well, here's a solution! Introducing...
COMPACTORS!
Compacters are a new type of block in Minecraft. They are crafted like so:
What these do is, you place 9 pieces of the material you want compacted. Let's use coal as our example. Right-click to open a GUI. It has 1 box on the left. Put 9 pieces of coal in that box. Then you should get a coal block on the box on the right! It's much easier and less time-consuming than crafting it in a table.
I feel this has potential as a part in a mine transport system. Toss the coal into a hopper, it transports into a compacter, which turns it into coal blocks, then it gets transported along hoppers back to your base!
What do you think? Comment below and vote on he poll. I love me some feedback!

Why is it so hard to use the crafting table? I make hundreds of mineral blocks every day but don't see it as boring or tedious; pick up stack, drag to crafting grid, hold down left-click and drag over the spaces, which are automatically divided out (as I usually have a lot I place one stack in each grid space or split each stack over 2-3 spaces; for example, 3 stacks will each split over 3 spaces with 21 pieces each, making 21 blocks and leaving 3 extra pieces for inventory place-holding), Then I shift-click the output to convert all of the materials to blocks in one click (do people really click up to 64 times to make a stack of an item?!). It takes less than a minute to convert an inventory's full of stuff to blocks, a fraction of the time I spend caving, never mind the smelting time for iron/gold ore (I just continue exploring while waiting for it to smelt, plus I can store ore in an Ender chest until I accumulate a lot so this is done less often than making blocks of coal and stuff).
Not to mention I don't want to carry around another item whose only purpose is to do something the crafting table does just fine.

I do see the potential behind this with a hooper - mine cart system, however we can already compact things via crafting table so not much is added to the game here. Perhaps if you would need this to compact in general - It'd raise the value of this and also pave the way for new crafts via compacting.

Yeah, maybe this should be necessary to compact blocks...
I've seen everyone's posts, and yes, crafting tables do this easily. Maybe it's because when I thought of this idea, I had CHESTS of coal to convert.

Extremely annoying... why do we need something just to make resource blocks when the crafting table already does it much better, espeiclaly since you can make up to a stack of blocks at a time in a few seconds, as opposed to using only one stack of resources at a time to make 7 blocks at once. I just tested it; I filled my inventory with coal (36 stacks) then timed to see how long it took to convert it to blocks; only 42 seconds to make 256 blocks or 0.16 seconds per block (normally even faster since I normally don't need to drag stacks all the way from my hotbar and the rightmost slots are occupied with other items).
Sorry, but (again) NO SUPPORT; unnecessary, cumbersome, and redundant.
If Mojang ever did add this, and removed crafting with the table, you can be sure I'd mod it out ASAP. Not that they are likely to just as they are unlikely to make gold tools better, etc because this would be altering fundamental game mechanics.

Sorry, but no support.
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Actually tools take quite a long time to make, it usually takes me about 20 whole seconds to make a full set of tools.
Woa. It takes a WHOLE 20 SECONDS to make a full set of tools? That is a long time.
Partial Support for now.
