Hey, forum. I know Mojang will be releasing Ocean Temples and Guardians in the near future, but I have a bunch of ideas for a new major update, mostly themed around adding more features to the ocean. Let me know what you think.
FISH! Actual, visible schools of fish
Silverfish-style mobs for each catchabe fish already in the game (Salmon, Pufferfish, etc.)
Obtain respective fish item from killing mob
Found in respective locations (eg. Salmon only found in rivers)
Coral Reefs
Large, underwater reefs containing a variety of coral types (brain, fan, etc.), composed of individual coloured reef blocks. Found within 30 blocks of a shoreline
Reef blocks can be destroyed, and have roughly the same strength as sand blocks. Upon destruction, reef blocks will drop several (1-3) dyes of the same colour as the reef block.
Reef blocks themselves can be harvested with a pickaxe with a silk touch enchantment. One coral block can be crafted into three coral polyps, which can be used to grow a particular coral formation in water that is at least 5 blocks deep
Coral Dungeon
Large, hollow brain coral (like a one-block-thick dome) containing either a Zombie or Spider dungeon
Coral Dungeons typically spawn with a single hole in the "roof", to allow water to enter, while creating an air pocket inside
Sharks
Usually spawn near coral reefs, but rarely spawn elsewhere
Only become hostile to the player if they are within 5 blocks
Drop consumable/cookable Shark Meat (same nutritional value as Pork Chops), and Shark Teeth
Shark Teeth Uses
Can be used to craft Arrows, by replacing the Flint in he crafting recipe with a Shark Tooth
Surrounding a piece of armor or a weapon with 8 Shark Teeth will create Spiked <Armor piece/weapon>. Spiked armor/weapons will cause all mobs to "bleed" for a few seconds (i.e. lose health as if poisoned), but will decrease armor/weapon durability faster
Surrounding a Pressure Plate with 8 Shark Teeth creates a Spike Trap. Spike Traps are placed down like Pressure Plates, but will damage any mobs/players that walk over them, like Cacti
Water Terrain
In open ocean, the first layer of blocks formed as the ocean floor will only be Sand or Gravel from 0-20 blocks from the water's surface, and Stone onwards
Swamps will now contain Mud blocks both above and under the water
Mud blocks work udentically to Soul Sand within the Nether
Mud can be crafted by combining a Water Bucket and 8 Dirt blocks (returning 8 Mud blocks)
Tropical Shore Mini-Biome
Whenever a Jungle biome meets Ocean, a Shore is created
The Shore itself is a shallow incline 10-30 blocks long of sand, which separates the Jungle from the Water
Palm Trees naturally spawn on Shores. They drop consumable Coconuts in the same manner as Oak trees drop Apples, and are the only trees which only grow on Sand
Shores are inhabited by Chicken-sized Crabs, which are neutral towards the player untill attacked (though are very weak and attack individually). Killing one drops consumable/cookable Crab Meat
Occasionally, shores may have "treasure" chests buried within them, containing any combination of Diamonds, Emeralds, Redstone, Iron Ingots, Gold Ingots/Nuggets, any Armor/Tool/Weapon (including Horse Armors), and/or Bones
Giant Squid
Very rare mob that spawns within open ocean
Resembles a huge Squid mob (i.e. 6 times regular size)
Very large health pool, atacks Player with tentacles and a ramming attack
Killing one drops 10-20 Ink Sacs and up to 2 Guardian's Oculi
A Guardian's Oculus is held by the player like a Map, and looks in the direction of the nearest Ocean Monument
The Redundancy Jellyfish
Can somehow detect if the player made a redundant thread on a forum. It stings this player over and over until the attacked player mentally realizes why it's being stung. The stinging continues 4 minutes after that anyway.

Me neither. I personally think 1.9 (if the free updates continue, as it appears so, at least for now) should be a ocean/ pirate themed update (The Seaworthy Update). Also, how is it a wishlist if most of the things are related to the theme and each other? There usually is an oddball thing or two in each update and mud in swamps fits that description well. However, I'm not too fond of fishes and sharks. I thought they said they won't add sharks or was that only concerning the then new mob (guardian)? A few fish mobs would be okay. (Something else from Mo Creatures that needs to be vanilla.)
However, I don't think each corresponding fish needs to be made one. That kind of takes away from fishing a bit, even if there are treasures you can get to. Instead, perhaps normal fish and a new fish type or two could be added as the fish mob type. Heck, maybe one of them could be a bigger fish mob (but not bigger than the player) that kills and eats the smaller ones, but flees the player. When killed, it drops multiple fish meat drops. (Maybe a Tuna or some other larger predatory fish that we eat.)
I also support sea caves from another thread being thrown in here, since the chest thing is in here. Treasure maps and unique dungeon items (though this could be made to be treasure chest items to) are on Dinnerbone's idea list. (Look towards the bottom of upcoming features.)
"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
Please explain further. I don't see how it's a wishlist, link, and it ain't vague. Geez, what happened since 2013???
But ehh... I haven't seen an ocean thread since very lung time, so...

My Avatar is a Dalek, therefor your argument is... EXTERMINATED!!!
You know who can tell me something I already know? Me. All the time. I'm really good at telling me stuff I already know. I don't need help in that department. I don't know about others, but I can't imagine I'm alone here.

But here's the catch, find an effective way of fighting it.

What did you think I meant?

My best suggestion:
Mobs actually being varied???
