How can we describe them ? Are they OP , balanced or UP ? well , they and the leather armor tier are completely UP and nearly all players skip leather armor and jump directly to the iron tier . We don't want that , do we ? not only this , but getting 10 iron is much easier than getting 10 leather , you just need to find a ravine , to fix this , lets improve leather drop - No , i'm not going to suggest making iron rare - here is an example , but if you don't like it , comment ! how about cows drop 0-1 steak and 2-4 leather ? that way leather will be more common ( that if you didn't spawn in a desert biome ) this also makes cows a more reliable way to obtain leather than horses , horray ! good , and what about milking cows ? players lock these poor animals in a cage and immediately fill all their 10 buckets with milk , yes , minecraft isn't supposed to be realistic but it's supposed to be balanced , how about a 5 minutes cooldown of milking cows , and that is set in an NBTData tag ( like age - timing with ticks )
What's next ? pigs .
Since horses were implemented , pigs became completely useless , you can get meat from other animals , and breading with wheat is better than carrot because it's rare for a zombie to drop one . also , horses are faster , easier to control , you can jump with them . And they don't require a carrot on a stick . they also can be equipped with armor and donkeys can carry your stuff in their chest , is that all ? Oh right , you can heal them too . now , pigs , what's left for them ? nothing except that meat that can easily be replaced with steak , rabbit meat , and mutton ( yes , they will add those in 1.8 ) how about using them for : farming , yes , all you need is shift - right click them and it will open a your inventory with an extra slot , made for equipping the pig , you can place 3 things , helmets , hoes , and seeds ( also carrots and potatoes ) if a helmet is equipped , it reduces damage and still loses durability . if hoes are equipped , it will plow any dirt or grass block it stands on AND harvest all fully grow crops ( fully grown only ) if equipped with seeds , it will plant them in any farmland it stands on ( note that it doesn't do that randomly , you MUST stand on it and control it with a carrot on a stick ) ok , horses for transportation , and pigs for helping in large farms . oh , and when you feed a farm animal ( hearts above him ) it will have regeneration effect on it . ( not insta-heal like horses )
Wow , that's a long post
There is three things left , sheep is one of them .
Ok , if you follow mojang workers tweets etc , you must know about mutton meat . Is it game breaking ? YES IT IS , you know why ? because I want all farm animals to have a unique reason to keep them , sheep for wool , cows for leather , pigs for farming AND porkshop , chickens for feather and eggs , and horses for transportation . no , i'm not suggesting scrapping the idea of mutton , but make it a rare drop , each sheep drop 0-1 mutton , that way sheep will only drop it half of the time .
Ok , two animals left , chicken
Shearing chicken , and boiled eggs , some of the most redundant suggestions ever . why are they ? because we need them , eggs are completely useless , you can get many stacks of eggs and having nothing to do with them except making endless numbers of cakes and pumpkin pies . how about it restores little hunger but moderate saturation , 0.5 hunger ( like melons ) and 4.6 saturation . then , shearing chicken , it's simple , but to balance it a little bit , make chickens drop 2-3 feathers when sheared and can never be sheared again and when killed won't drop feathers , so you can't endlessly farm feathers .
Bunnies , use of brewing , meat , and leather ?!!
Bunnies are not in the game yet , but they currently have 3 uses , jump boosts , rabbit meat , and leather at the same time , first , make meat a rare drop , and remove rabbit leather . that way players will still use cows . make rabbit meat drop ( like other farm animals ) drop 0-1 meat , meaning every two rabbits will drop 1 meat ( or none , if you aren't lucky )
Please , If you didn't like anything about the suggestion , post so I can correct it , i'm looking for constructive criticism .
Fix farm animals
Cooldown for milking cows
Farming with pigs
shearing chickens
boiled eggs
no leather from bunnies
rarer meat drop from sheep , rabbit and cows .

Leather:
I agree, there aren't many players that find it harder to get iron than leather. I think the purpose of leather as starter armor has gone, and has been replaced with dyes for colored armor; this is where it fits in now. I don't think it is necessary to increase the drop of leather from cows when we already have a natural one coming from rabbits. And when you think about it, there aren't herds of rabbits the same way there are cows, so it really is a balanced system. A limit on cow milking is good, similar to the way mating animals is limited.
Pigs and their purpose: Your idea on pigs farming simply doesn't make much sense. When you think of a pig on a farm, you think "eating, manure, bacon." These are basically the functions of pigs on a farm. They eat your leftovers, use their manure for bettering farmland, and give tasty meat once they've grown. Now I agree that pig riding has kind of lost its place with the horses, so I have no ideas there. But if you want to make pigs more useful, I would suggest something like, "leaving them in a pen of crops will make the crop grow a bit quicker" due to their manure positives.
Chicken:
You don't shear sheep to get their feathers. Birds would die without their feathers, hence the reason you only get the feathers when you kill the chicken. I would agree that eggs might be nice for a food option.
Is pig/sheep/rabbit meat obsolete?
No. Their meat is not obsolete just like chicken is not obsolete from steak. Each player has their own style, so a nice variety of food options is better, in my opinion. I don't think meat drops need to be limited for this reason.
Here's what I think is good here:
A limit on milking cows
Edible eggs
Perhaps some system that allows pigs to be useful again (not farming/placing seeds)

Well actually , Pigs don't technically farm , you just put the item in their back and do the job your self with riding it . Let me give you an example : Let's say you have a big plot but you it takes time to turn all of it into farmland , so you put a hoe in the back of your pig and ride it . Since the hoe is touching the ground it will be plowed . but then you need to plant seeds . You place the seeds , and ride it while the seeds are dropping from it . I didn't say that the PIG will farm . The idea of manure is good ...
Also for the meat , It might be OK for all of them to give meat ... Variety is good I will see what I can change here .
For chickens , maybe you don't shear them completely . But their feathers might randomly drop like real life birds
Actually no , leather armor isn't made just for dying it . it is called leather ARMOR made to PROTECT before you have a source of iron , yes , it is used in map making with dyes , but if you think it was intended to be used in map making . Then no .
Well , rabbit currently have 3 uses while all other farm animals have less . but who knows , they haven't implement it yet .

My point about the leather is that it's purpose has changed in recent updates of Minecraft. It was realized that not many people go for leather before iron, so they gave it another use that helps it fit a bit better.
I also don't agree that dyeing armor is only used for map makers. Players use this mechanic all the time to achieve a specific style of clothing in MC.
I see where you are coming from and agree there needs to be a balance, most of your ideas are worth consideration. Hopefully a new update provides the balance.
