I support this idea. On the matter of how to smelt bronze and steel, I think the best way would just be to combine the copper and tin, or iron and coal before putting it into the furnace, giving you an unsmelted item that needs to be roasted before it becomes useful.
Firstly, I don't believe that's true. Bronze was seen as the superior material well into the middle ages, up until steel started being used. The only reason they stopped using bronze was because tin deposits disappeared.
And even if it isn't, what's inherently wrong with that tech tree? When it's suggested that copper and bronze are added, but iron is left on top, I think of it as a real waste. What's the point of adding in those new materials if they're going to be obsoleted by iron? And, if iron is going to be the top material, it also gets a bunch of pressure as also being the material to make minecarts and such, while at the same time it has to be rare enough that you're likely going to progress in the order of copper>tin>iron, which just messes everything up.
What's the point of adding in those new materials if they're going to be obsoleted by iron?
*grabs you by the head and beats it against the wall* (Please read above posts if you don't understand this reference)
Ok, is iron obsoleted by diamonds? No.
Why? Because diamonds are harder to find, and harder to get to.
What about this is so amazingly hard to understand?
You have said these should be in the game but have not said what they would do, or how the game would benefit from these. So no i don't want this. Adding content that does not add anything to the game makes the game feel bloated and weighed down.

Because there's a difference between adding materials that'll add a tech-tree like nature to the game, and adding materials that just bloat out gameplay. Adding in 2 totally new materials whose sole purpose is to be obsoleted 30 minutes in does not interesting gameplay make.
Like the idea but dont think we need tin just copper. Once smelted it can be turned to bronze but I like having extra crafting ideas like copper wire or cct board etc.
If you had bronze I would still use stone tools as I dont waste iron on tools as it is too important for minecarts and buckets. I dont even use it for armour. But bronze or copper armour I might use.

Are you #*$&^%ing retarded?
Does Diamond Make Everything Else Obsolete????? NO
So your insistence that anything could be made obsolete by a higher grade material has absolutely no basis, whatsoever, and repeating yourself again and again with this argument just makes you look like a troll.
To reply to the actual people that have asked how deep they should be, what they would be used for, i have only three words for you, and an explanation.
Dunno, Don't Care
Explanation: When I get a paycheck in the mail for thinking this stuff up, I'll attempt to balance the game for the developers.

Its your suggestion. You need to come up with the ideas. You can't just say "OH we should have this" and let other people come up with the idea. You did'nt suggest anything here. You just want others to do it for you? Pathetic.

But, diamond spawns extremely sparsely in like the bottom 10 layers of the map. Iron doesn't. So either you're going to make iron just slightly less rare than diamonds, which basically means by bye minecarts, or you're wrong. And if iron's going to be as abundant as it is now, then copper and tin will get obsoleted, because if you're wanting to use a metal for tools the logical one would be iron. Even if not, you'll have a huge abundance of copper and tin, way more than you'll ever need to use.
Compare that to my situation, where you'll always have enough iron to use in things like minecarts, you can still use iron in tools when you're midway through the tech tree (to better advantage, as it has double the lifespan that it does now,) but copper and bronze are the ideal tool-making materials. Copper is slightly less useful, but still makes tools that are superior to stone; bronze is harder to find and slightly harder to make, but is superior to iron. Iron is sandwiched in the middle as being all around useful: for minecarts, for tools and armour, doors, possibly for anvils, etc.
Perhaps before you start accusing others of having disabilities, you should act like you don't have one yourself and make a logical argument. I might agree with you if you can give me a good situation, but spazzing out just makes yourself sound like an angry person who doesn't have anything to contribute to their own thread.

No, i don't HAVE to do anything. I came up with the idea of adding more content in like process with the rest of the game, for you to sit there and spout off your opinions about how i should offer up the code for the suggestion i made is really quite laughable.
Why the F would i go, ok, between y## and y## there should be copper, and it should be used for this and that and then iron's rarity should be changed from ## to ## and copper should have a rarity of ## and silver that of ## and it should be used for this and not for that and should spawn at a height between ## and ##. etc. etc.
Just so forum trolls like yourself can go, oh, no, the whole idea of having different metals suck because silver should be between ## and ##..
who the F cares?? i'm not a developer, and i don't care how far from the surface they put it, i dont' care what they use it for and they should be god damn thankful i took the time to even post
I will make this into a mod if anyone is intreasted. All I need is the textures, any one able to make those?
Sorry that everyone's ignoring you, if you think you're up to it, I'm sure that someone, whether it be John Smith, Notch, me or some other fella, will be wiling to make a few simple textures.

Oh no. I'm not taking this.
Listen it YOU IDEA. You need to come up with the CONTENT. We are'nt asking for code but you can't tell someone "Put this in the game" and not tell them how it would work.
You don't know how to post suggestions.
This is'nt a suggestion.
It's a wish. Your saying "I wish this would be in the game"
a suggestions is "This should be in the game and it would work like this."
So no you fail give your idea some content or leave.

Again, i'm not the developer, and i'm not going to make code for a game i paid for, there is a 99% chance that everything i would suggest as far as rarity and placement would be moot anyway, so why should i make some fail attempt at suggesting exactly how rare it is or where to find it?
Anyone that whines about how i didn't specifically say how rare Copper, Tin, Silver, and Steel should be, all the items it should make, the certain places you should find it, are failures at life
My suggestion was to add more metals to the game. That's a suggestion.
Copper, Tin, Silver, and Steel; i suggest it gets added, what you do with it, or where you hide it, i really don't give a *&^$

No. thats not a suggestion. We aren't asking for code but you NEED to tell how tin steel silver and copper would work, like the durability, and the rarity. That's part of a suggestion. If you just want to say "oh I want this" and not give how it would work, do it in the wishlist forum.
A suggestions is saying something should be added AND HOW IT WOULD WORK IN GAME.
