Especially since Mojang doesn't have much to add to Minecraft now besides some mobs or minor terrain improvement, they really need to implement this in vanilla.
I support it, but i dont think so.
It would be a too big update, and sinse mojang does the most things on they're own, i don't think the Aether will ever be added to the game.
And the Aether has been suggested so many times, and mojang din't added it.
I also think the Aether is a bit to mod-y to be in vanilla.
So it probably will just stay as a mod.
You think the Aether is moddy because the people who made the mod went overboard with content. You go to the Aether and never go back because now the tools made from trees are better than diamond.
If done properly, the Aether could very well fit in with vanilla Minecraft. Just look at the original skylands, they would make a perfect Aether if modified correctly.
Actually, me and two others are going to be attempting to make a mod that will make an Aether that fits in with vanilla Minecraft. It will also add in more Nether content to match the Aether. It's not in development yet, but we are currently going over ideas. Many are from this thread and the new Nether thread. Suggestions would be appreciated, for we don't have very many ideas yet.
I don't know if this has actually been suggested yet, but you might want to consider adding Aether-specific trees, cobble, ores, etc. This is a feature I like about the Aether mod: You have to start over. Tools from the Overworld don't really WORK as well in the Aether mod(s). And frankly, I think that should be a thing if it isn't. Basically, ifIsAetherMaterial(false){/*code that makes things mine at like half speed with minimum fist speed here*/
Also, oxygen meters for speed on Quicksoil, I just don't like. I mean, sure, it's balancing, but I just don't really like it.
As for clouds: Perhaps just have one harvest it with a bucket. I mean, does it really need to be hypercomplex?
Daey: No likey. Just not a thing I like. I mean, yes, light, but why so much?
Also, why are we placing all this emphasis on gold/budder/whatever it is???
In short, what I'm really trying to suggest is more a direct implementation of the actual Aether mod, pre- the massive loss of stuff that happened at some point.
Yes, I realize the point of this thread is to have an Aether that fits with Vanilla.
I still think the original Aether (not fancy 2.0 or whatever. Original Aether mod, before it was rebooted and lost a whole bunch of content) would fit IMC. And if I recall correctly, Aether tools had the same problems with Overworld blocks that OVerworld tools had with Aether blocks...
EDIT: Gosh darn it, forgot to look at the most recent post date and accidentally ressurected a zombie thread. Sorry peoples. Still support the idea of something Aethery.

Weird Things Mods Say When Booting
[Client thread/INFO] [TConstruct]: Natura, what are we going to do tomorrow night?
[Client thread/INFO] [Natura]: TConstruct, we're going to take over the world!
[Client thread/INFO] [inpure|core]: Beating Minecraft's resource loading system with a shovel. Please stand by...
[Client thread/INFO] [MagicBees]: Replacing stupid-block with 'Here, have some delicious textures' ItemBlock. This is 100% normal.
I hope somebody could remake an aether mod. The first aether mod was okay, but it was very different from the original suggestion. What would be amazing is if somebody who wanted to make an aether mod made a version that just stuck to the suggestion, and then a version with the features they wanted. If this happened from the start, the current aether mods would probably be very different because they couldn't get feature bloated.

I had a signature here before, but I seem to have misplaced it..
I would very much like the Aether added to Minecraft Vanilla at some point in 1.9's development. I understand that 1.9 needs to get worked on and released, I want to see the Aether in 1.9.1 or 1.9.2 after bugs have been worked out. It would really be sad to have to wait until 1.10 or 2.0 for the Aether. I really really dislike the Nether, it makes me feel very uneasy and I avoid it. Please please please add the Aether!

I'm glad this post isn't dead. I feel like the Aether would be a good addition in minecraft, and a fun new thing to explore. I like the idea of having a lot of natural causes killing you rather than mobs. It sounds cool.
I don't know- I sort of have mixed feelings about the idea. I just don't think there's a big enough niche for an entire new dimension. It would be such a monumental change that the odds of it being properly implemented seem pretty darn low. The developers have stated they're happy with three dimensions, and to be fair, the existing three dimensions already fit the three types of terrain generation one can think of- The Overworld is a standard world, the Netherworld consists of subterranean cave generation, and the End consists of a skyworld and floating islands.
I think Mojang has bigger fish to fry before considering adding an entire new dimension. I'd rather see the End updated than an entire new dimension added.
A Skylands based off Minetests' style of land gen and dungeon gen would be nice, though.
Also, I can't believe Aether is still a topic 12 years later...The End has been around for a decade now and clearly is the intended version of this (minus custom worlds)...I doubt Mojang is going to budge anymore if they ever were.

Yes. Part of me dislikes the Aether mod for making everyone think the Aether is to "moddy" because it is essentially it's own RPG.

Aether itself is very Minecraftian.
Without dungeons, without RPG elements like XP, enchanting etc
The original Aether was Sky Dimension:

It's a shame that they changed direction of the Minecraft in Beta 1.8
A Skylands based off Minetests' style of land gen and dungeon gen would be nice, though.

Why just add one dimension. Add infinity dimensions!
A serious infinity update would be great.
One can hope, friend, one can hope...
