hmm (just to revive this again) It should have more of a mc feel. more danger.like Retrinox said, more "survival". but well, you can easily add more mobs (so long as they're neutral). maybe some flying humanoid who just flies around making sure that everything's fine but shoots a "slide-ball" at you when hostile. this makes it much easier to slide off an island. or such mobs. also belive new blocks should be added like in the nether. maybe instead of glowstone, "darkstone" allowing you to see when its daey. or stuff like that

Wow. Some of the stuff in here really should have been implemented into the Aether mod.
Why add the 'this' when the game is already completed with 3 worlds (the overworld, the end, and the nether) Simply adding this would double the time to complete the game (as some may hate this) and also, what is so important anyways in the Aether that is more important than searching for an Stronghold.
All i am saying is, whats the point to even travel to the Aether.

Come to think of it, all these silly mobs and blocks aren't great. IMO a Skylands dimension should not have fluffy sheep and recolored slimes, though Airwhales are fine. A Skylands dimension should also have "Sky Quartz Ore" block that does the same thing as Nether Quartz Ore but has a different texture that fits the stone texture, and the Temples should, obviously, use Quartz. Trees should be normal trees or maybe just Birch, and all the gimmicky, modlike blocks shouldn't exist. However, the Aether alternate of Stone, or some special ore, might make a good material for Pipes to transport items collected by Hoppers. Glowstone veins should also exist embedded in the islands.
EDIT: Dinnerbone said he's not adding Pipes. I don't see why not, it seems like the same **** move he's making with the aquatic content, but...
I think this is a great idea packed with well thought-out content, I would just hope that Mojang doesn't implement it exactly the way you suggest, but kind of take everything here and tweak it a little, like adding bridges between most of the islands. That would just be so I wouldn't have to spend the time building them myself. Otherwise, this idea sounds pretty fantastic.
