I believe that PvP in Minecraft has a TON of potential without too much work. Here are some of my ideas:
Team Matches:
Each team/faction will start with an equal amount of players with one player on each team as the Leader. The teams will start a great distance (~500-1000 blocks) away from eachother, and no team should know the location of other teams for at least a few minutes.
To simplify this, I will use Red, Blue and Yellow teams as examples.
Each team will start with a set amount of 'territory'. The Blue team starts with 30x30 square (infinite dimensions Up + Down) of Blue territory and 3 flag-stations. When 'Territory' view is on, all the blocks in the blue territory will gain a blue hue. Blocks that are not in any team's territory will be unchanged while territory view is active. The Blue team can build and destroy at normal speeds in their own territory, but if a Red team player comes and tries to destroy a block in blue territory, it will take significantly longer, and the Red player will not be able to place any blocks in Blue territory. The Blue territory will gradually expand in any direction as long as there is a player-placed block within 3 squares of the border. Neutral territory can be built on by any team, but the blocks you place are not protected as well as if they were in your own territory. Blocks placed by opposing teams may ONLY be destroyed with the appropriate tool (ex. a Red player needs an Axe to break a Blue player's wooden wall). The flag-stations are very important to the game. The Blue Leader can pick up and place the blue flag-stations anywhere in his team's territory. The flag-stations are used to assign a specific role to team members. Any Blue player can go up to a flag station and 'Right-click' to change their role. The roles are as follows:
Gathering refers to breaking neutral blocks. Destroying refers to breaking enemy blocks.
Soldier: Deals 100% damage on opposing players and NPCs while a weapon is equipped. Destroying/Gathering speed is 50% of normal. Receives 75% damage from opposing players. Necessary for fighting enemy players.
Ranger: Deals 75% damage to opposing players. Deals 200% damage to NPCs while a weapon is equipped. Gathering speed (ores, etc.) is 100%. Destroying speed is 75% of normal. Receives 100% damage from opposing players. Ideal for stocking up on materials of all types, as well as scouting out enemy territory.
Engineer: Deals 50% damage to opposing players and NPCs. Gathering speed is 75%. Destroying speed is 250%. Receives 200% damage from opposing players. Can place TNT and electric mechanisms (introduction of traps would be nice :smile.gif: ) in enemy territory.
UNDER Construction :tongue.gif: Post replies if you see any mistakes, etc.
