Do not post suggestions in the wrong section either.

The funny thing about obsidian is that, in reality, it's quite brittle, and chips and breaks easily. As far as sharpness goes, a diamond blade is sharper than pretty much anything.
This isn't the suggestions forum, you should post there with suggestions that don't relate to Halloween. :B
Also, please use the search function, as this idea is suggested very frequently.
I don't want to come off as a **** since you don't have many posts, so I'll just add that I would like to see obsidian with use in tools.
Obsidian is in no way useful for making a sword. But then again, neither is wood, stone, or diamond.
Why is everyone talking out of their asses about the properties of diamonds/obsidian etc.? Apparently this forum is full of geologists. Obsidian has been used for swords, spears, and arrowheads in real life. This is a fact. It can be potentially sharpened down to only a few nanometers thick making it one of the sharpest materials in the world. Sharper than you could cut a diamond or steel to.
"Pre-Columbian Mesoamericans' use of obsidian was extensive and sophisticated; including carved and worked obsidian for tools and decorative objects. Mesoamericans also made a type of sword with obsidian blades mounted in a wooden body. Called a macuahuitl, the weapon was capable of inflicting terrible injuries, combining the sharp cutting edge of an obsidian blade with the ragged cut of a serrated weapon."

I would like to make a motion to switch the unrealistic diamond sword to a more realistic Diamond-edged sword! Maybe we could also introduce a slightly less powerful Obsidian-edged sword (since obsidian would break and wear out more easily).
Completely serious.

Also, why don't we have glass swords? I think that'd be a cool gag weapon, kind of like the gold swords.

Combine a slime ball with a glass sword, poison glass sword. :ohmy.gif:

They have glass swords in The Elder Scrolls as one of the highest tier of weapons, so why not?

I better question is why it isn't it being taken seriously.
Something like a macuahuitl would break instantly on contact with an iron sword or armor.
But considering we're cutting up zombies and exploding leaf penises it would be great for minecraft.
Completely serious.

Agreed. But then again, it would be a "waste" of obsidian.
