I think there should be an in game map that shows all explored territory. it would be crafted out of sheets of paper possible in arrangement like so:




= paper

it could also require a pen crafted like so:

[] [] []
= ink (doesn't exist yet)


-Maybe it would show all blocks within a 10 or 20 block radius of where you have walked since the map's creation.
-If this would cause lag, then maybe it would only chart areas while the map is equipped.
-Different types of blocks would be marked with different textures (like sand and dirt and water). Different height would be shown by different levels of brightness (top would be lighter, bottom would be darker, sea level would be normal.)
-Maybe you could add labels where you wanted.
-It would only show the very top block of a column, so it wouldn't wouldn't work in caves or indoors.

Maybe there could be a cave variant, that would by default show the lowest block exposed to air that you have explored.

Sounds good. Papers already made which makes it easier to script.

Good, i'm unfamiliar with coding, so i don't know how that would be done.

I'm 100% sure that this is something that has already been said and is something most people would want. There are also mods that are already out there that display maps.

I really like the idea of a completely man-made map. Give us a peice of paper, and the ability to draw.

How man made are you talking? if you want something entirely manual, you could just draw it on paint. :/

Um, I thought those mods were for editing the map but oh well.

Also, the ideas great, but would the map show rock and sand and stuuf? Also, what if you were underground.
And if you make a map, isn't it kinda wierd how the map has everyplace on your world already on there?
I voted yes.

The map would only show ares that were explored after it's creation.
It would only show the very top block of every column.
It would display the texture of that block

Thats a good things about forums, you can fix out the problems. It would be nice to get a map for "Hell" in the update, to know where your going.

Oooh. that has potential. or even a map of the real world that shows your earth location while you're in hell, that would be handy.

Why write on real paper with a pen when you can write on pixelated non-paper with a mouse?

No maps. Getting lost is fun.
