note: Then I mention a group of people in my posts, i mean the majority of information i have seen from that group, and my statement may not be accurate for every individual in that group.
this might be a really old post (i remember how hard red stone was back in alpha) and now we have all this new red stone stuff in 1.5 but i like this idea so a give support

This is the first time i've noticed this topic and I'm kinda milling somethings in my head. I will probably find some thing to poke at, but this is a nice, relatively simply idea.
As far as all that goes, I would say, don't make acquiring Bluestone powder harder then it needs to be. Redstone + dye should be sufficient, or it could simply be Lapis.
Course in saying that, making a dye the key to obtaining new redstone powder might push this idea into a realm that takes things too far; the idea could be extended around a color wheel, especially since the idea of an intermediate color (purple) is part of the original concept, and dye is a lot more common in 1.7. However, you could limit it, but it sorta depends on where you draw the line. If 2 power sources are good, 3 is even better (red, blue, yellow), and would come with intermediate colors (Green, orange, purple)
Regardless, as far as coding, the individual redstone components could simply be given data values that determine their 'tuning', which means that this could be extended to all redstone components somewhat easily. Whether that would be useful in all redstone circumstance i don't know, but i suspect it would be.
It is interesting that my friend and I were talking about this and even wanted to call it Bluestone. I did have some more thoughts however after reading the thread.
First, color limitations: Why? If this idea was actually implemented why not have multiple colors that could travel along one block? If you want to have it be "simpler" make it simpler yourself by limiting your colors. Personal choice.
Crafting: No need to make this hard, or change any blocks. Just a new crafting combination of redstone and dye (similar suggestions were made before, by many people. It is a sound idea). Then, any color that dye can be you can have as 'circuit dust', except red of course.
Repeaters: Don't change them. They have one input and one output. Regardless of the color(s) in or the color(s) out it will repeat. This makes it so you could do a few cool things. Allow multiple items trigger one event, for instance, because the repeater would take the 2 or more inputs, and output equally to all things on the other side.
Comparators: Don't change them. They measure difference between rear and side input, and either send out the same signal as behind them, or a subtraction signal based on mode. Regardless or number of inputs, this would let you do some cool if/then/else like subtraction statements.
Redstone Torches: Don't change them. These power any block around them right now with a 15 strength signal. Let them still do that, and have that signal carry down any number of circuits.
Destroying: If you destroy the circuit dust on a block, or the block itself, it would yield all the circuit dust. For instance, if you have red, blue, and yellow circuits on one block, and you need to change the red circuit, it would actually break all three, and you would have to lay the blue and yellow down again.
What my suggestion would not allow: Changing back. So, in the game right now if you have white wool and dye it orange, there is no way to change it white again. Same thing here, once circuit dust is made the color you dye, then it is set that way. My suggestion, would be to just dye what you need for the thing that you are building.
HEY! Why am I not on the support list? For your last post, I said I support, as long as there is purplestonedust or some way to connect them, and now there is! So, why am I not in supporting?
I support the bluestone idea although the problem with bluestone is that the game texture may look similar to the lapis texture. The probably with this is when villagers were added to the game their currency was going to be rubies but was instead changed to emeralds because a delvoper could not tell the difference between redstone block texture and the rubie block texture so rubies were instead changed to emeralds. If bluestone was going to be added in game or in a mod it may look similar to the lapis block texture. In conclusion I am for bluestone expect for the fact that it may look to similar the the lapis block texture.

I do a small amount with redstone.
