OMG!! I totally Forgot I made this thread! Srry For never updating it! I will try to get some work done on it ASAP.
Yeah, the main post could stand to use some more cleaning up. The formatting is very much problematic. I can't blame you though, Minecraft Forums has murdered its own post editor. x:

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
Is there a way I can get the code off the preset I made? I have the seed, but it's so weird - the seed doesn't generate the same world as the code did.
With the seed I get a standard hilly forest setting, but with the code this is what I got (and have been having a lot of fun playing survival on, since trees are rare, mineshafts are spawning on the surface, and there are a couple of really cool surprises otherwise):

Somewhere in the customize options there is a bar up top that displays the world code. Just copy and past. Beautiful world by the way.
For some reason, when I mess with certain settings, it has no noticeable effects. I not getting something...
As far as the different settings, keep working at it. You'll get the hang of it once you get a feel for how much a setting changes something along each axis. For some it's just discernible and for others it's a big difference with the smallest tweak.
With some of the numbers it was funny how a mere 0.003 made a difference....
This is just the Extreme Hills+ biome... the Birch Forest, Jungle, Swamp, and Tiaga also look awesome.
The rivers look like they should be there(for the most part), and with a few water blocks added they flow like rivers....
Build Height of 255 and most of the "mountains are" 200-245 range .... The valley you see below ranges from 80 down to the water line at 65 ... the base of all hills seem to have a more natural taper... and I have *0* floaties anywhere!
If you are talking about my pictures, Ocean and Deep Ocean form just fine, the map was made with Mineralogy mod installed before it was fixed and it wouldn't recognize some of the stone block types... hence the black and lava looking areas... (and the straight lines here and there) .... I just don't have more pictures since the mod was fixed.... lol
This is all Extreme Hills+ and those are Lakes... the Ocean is about 2k away and was just fine... I even got some of the sub ocean biomes, like Beach, Savannah Island, Mooshroom Island, and Rocky Beach that are huge...
Ok, cool! Thanks for the info, I will give it a try.
(I found the generation is very laggy, yes, but once it has completed the map runs really well. I have a set 4096 border)
I want a mostly realistic world to put a steam-punk setting into.
[EDIT]
Ok, what I found was that Recucing baseSize=8.338(downwards as you said) and INCREASING biomeDepthWeight=2.332 makes wide deep river biomes and looks nice overall. Everytime I reduced BDW I got narrow deep ravines with no water for river biomes...
The ONE Biome this formula does NOT work with @ biome scale under 7 is Stone Beaches... they are sheer cliffs up to 245-250 level, this was on scale 4 ...
@ scale 7 or 8 they look fine... something messed up there in their generation coding....
So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
I made Redstone available between Level=255 and Level=32. Spawn Tries=5; and, Spawn Size=3.
I need to reduce Redstone Spawn Size to 1.
I have way too much Redstone (I am not doing Redstone Circuitry Projects); and, finding more.
I am tired of the Vanilla Settings that requires deep Underground Mining and/or Cavern Exploration to find Redstone; because, I want to make Maps of my Base Site Area; and, to find Oceanic Shorelines.
My Home Base Sites are usually setup in about 3 In-Game Days. Finding Redstone with Vanilla Settings takes Multiple In-Game Months; because, Food Gathering takes alot of time; and, Monster Fighting gets fierce and plentiful and my Avatar dies alot because I don't have the resources to make Personal Armor.
Thus, Iron can be found between Level=127 and Level=0. Spawn Tries=10. Spawn Size=5. Not too much...Not too little. Iron can be found when needed and when I am looking for it; but, some amount of searching is required.
I'm working on a new preset. I may attempt to recreate classic generation at some point, but I bet that's going to be much further into the future than my current project.

I have a question for you... I'm on a small YouTube server and we're thinking it would be cool to do a custom preset world. Hermitcraft and others have done amplified recently which has been a big hit. We're by no means competing with the Hermits, but it would be cool if we could do something to differentiate ourselves. So my questions for you...
Can you apply customized presets to any seed? The reason I ask is because we use a world boarder and want to find a seed with all biomes within say 5k by 5k.
What type of world presets do you think would make for interesting SMP series?
Sure, you can use custom generation with any seed!
My warning to you, though--your mileage may vary. Once you modify the world generation (specifically the ones relating to biomes) then mapping programs like AMIDST won't work. I know because I did exactly this. I found a seed that had all biomes within 2k of spawn. But in that world, it's not all laid out exactly like AMIDST planned it would, and I didn't play with anything biome-related. Then again, custom world generation can alter the world so much, sometimes you can hardly recognize even the simplest biome.
So my suggestion to you is, find a preset you like first, then choose about 5 seeds to try with it. Try generating a few worlds and exploring in spectator mode.
What preset should you use? I suggest you read the thread and check the screenshots. You can do a lot of things. You could play on a regular world, but with lava oceans. You could play on a world where the entire world is underground. You could play on hundreds of floating islands.
Sorry for no Image, but its a nice little jungleworld with spikes at its edges; if any1 could make a screenshot, i could insert it
Actually this is not true. Without a seed to go along with the presets there's no way of knowing what kind of world your're going to get as far as what biomes are going to be near spawn.

Omg that kind of reminds me of the good ol' Farlands! Like from back in Beta!
I thought I'd share a preset I recently made with a lot of islands. (Not sky islands, sadly.)
Here it is:
Here's the preset:

Here's the seed I tried it with:
asdfqwerty9001
or
632727972
Here's a list of the generation changes that I did:
I set water the water level a bit higher
I made water lakes less frequent. (IDK why)
I made lava lakes spawn a little more frequently. (Still haven't found any though. :()
I made rivers a bit smaller.
I made biome sizes a lot smaller to have more variety in the islands.
I made the world generation a bit higher.
I made dungeons appear more frequently to encourage exploration.
Here's a list of the ore generation changes that I did that I'm too lazy to take out:
I made a lot of the ores and stone variants spawn in bigger veins, albeit less frequently.
I made all ores spawn at any height so that I could explore underground or just find them in the sides of islands.
Here's some pictures: (A lot of them. :D) (I hope linking photos is allowed. If not, I blame my toaster oven. xD)
