I was all excited to try out some new presets. I got a few loaded in single player, but every. Single. Time. I try to play it, it takes a billion years to build/load, and then when it needs to load new chunks because I'm moving around it just...doesn't. It's like the game just gives up trying to load new chunks.
My system is not great, but it's quad core, 8 GB RAM and I've got an nVidia 660 GTX so...I've just played on 1.6.4/1.7.2 with some mods like ATG. Absolutely no problems. Beautiful terrain generation.
IMHO Mojang needs to take a serious look at their generation code and try to streamline it before this goes live. The results, while impressive, are simply unplayable in a lot of cases!
I'm a sucker for realism in games and of course Minecraft worlds are far from looking realistic, also I'd like more variety and a more difficult survival experience so I introduce you to...
Smooth Hilly World
Rolling hills and huge (but not unrealistically so) mountain ranges smoothly sloping into the sea to make the landscape more pleasant and difficult to travel;
smaller biomes and more unpredictable terrain height for variety;
almost no lava/water ponds to make growing vegetables and creating Nether portals harder;
very rare ore veins scattered across full map's height (with the only exception of diamond which is only found beyond sea level) - the more useful an ore is, the fewer you'll find - prepare to rely on stone tools and leather armor for most of the time and forget about strip mining;
lot of gravel underground, beware of cave-ins;
lot of monster spawners;
maybe more "ocean" (i.e. ocean + flooded biomes) than usual, but I couldn't test it thoroughly.
Cons:
Prepare to see flat "extreme hills", "ocean" mountains and sea "forests": terrain height is almost independent from biomes so weird things happen (for example, in the second pic those greenish naked hills are actually an Ocean biome and the sand hills on the right end is a Beach);
almost no sand beaches (most of the time they will be below or above sea level), I couldn't find a way to make them look nice and flat without making the whole word flat (I blame that on Anvil);
almost no steep cliffs, overhangs and "crazy" terrain;
quite resource intensive but still barely playable on older machines.
So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
Finally, I can test the custom world generator free of fear for directory bug nonsense! Results coming soon.

I just made an insane world! Just look at those goddamn caves!!! Btw, I know it's a bit dark, sorry.
Btw, it does lag a bit(at least on my computer) and it takes time for the terrain to load(and chunks) but loading the actual world doesn't take long.
//EDIT: even tho I have experience making threads and posts and stuff, I have no Idea why it wont display my spoilers. If you can see them thats good. if you cant, something is definitely wrong... I use the same spoiler codes I always did, and in all other posts i used them they worked. Must have to do with the new forum design. I hate it.
Problem not in forum posting code but with your image hoster. As i check it return broken image. Forum side just show it as recieved.
I'll try to get some presets out for you tomorrow, neither function very nicely right now, but I'm sure you will find them interesting after my attempted fix.

Sorry, I couldn't do that day. Life was hectic and I almost let my mental state slide into 2011 mode. But here's a preview of something.

There is no Code Sequencing for checking the Minimum Height Value against the Maximum Height Values.
As an Amateur Computer Programmer, it is obvious that adding a Height Check Code Sequencing would complicate the New Feature.
Also...There is the question of "?What should be done when there is such a discrepancy?"
- ?(1) When the Max Height Value rises, the Min Height Value also rises?
- ?(2) When the Max Height Value rises, the Min Height Value remains unchanged? ?(3) When the Min Height Value is higher than the Max Height Value, an Error Message is displayed?
- ?(3a) What would the Error Message look like?
- ?(3b) How will the Player be able to respond (via Keyboard Input) to the Error Message?"

I am not happy with the amount of Andesite & Diorite & Graphite in this Game World. The Deposits have too few of these.
I am finding lots of Iron in my Game World. With the Defaults Settings, I was always in want of more Iron; and, I wasn't using Iron for Redstone Gadgets or for Armor.
I am questioning whether my Iron Deposits are too big or not. I haven't attempted Avatar Mining, or Cavern Exploration, yet. I have been busy trying to establish Base Sites. Thus, I am unsure if Iron Deposits below Sea Level will be as plentiful or not as Iron Deposits above Sea Level.
ooo...Gold is plentiful now. Now, maybe I can start attempting to turn Zombies into Villagers...Once I acquire more Apples...and actually start Mining for Gold Ores.
I know this isn't a preset but it seems all you guys 'n' gals know what you are doing when it comes to this new customized world type. I was wondering if any of you could post a tutorial or post a link. Sorry if someone has already asked...
When you Open up the Minecraft Game, you go to a Window with [Singleplayer] and [Multiplayer] and [Minecraft Realms] Buttons.
Selecting one of these will take you to a Select World Window.
The Select World Window will have a [Create New World] Button.
Selecting the [Create New World] will take you to a Create New World Window.
One of the Options is [World Type].
Clicking on the [World Type] Button will result in various World Type Options.
Some of these World Type Options will have a [Customize] Button below the [World Type] Button.
Selecting the [Customize] Button will open up a new Window that allows you to Select various Features & Feature Settings.
One of the Option Buttons is [Presets].
[Presets] are fixed Minecraft Game Designer/Creator Settings for various World Types; which, are Terrain Specific for the entire Game World that you are creating.
Preset World Settings are based on the [World Type] you have selected.
My Game World in this Topic Thread is [World Type: Customized]; and, I didn't use any [Presets]. I clicked on [Customize] to access the Game World Setting Options; which, I modified to the Values within my Posting.

Select [YES] for the Lava Ocean Option.
I spawned in a Game World that had nothing but Lava Lakes; and, a Lava Ocean was like 100 to 200 Blocks away from my Original Spawning Site.
I tried to escape the Lava-Filled Environments; but,...nnnooo...Lava Lava everywhere...and no Water to drink.
I hated that Game World and Deleted it.
No more Lava Ocean Worlds for me.

I do realize that these numbers do affect the numbers and Types Of Blocks within each Chunk.
What I don't know is...
?Do my Settings result in Dirt & Gravel & Ore being generated in excess of The Total Number Blocks Per Chunk?
Obviously, if there were no Dirt & Gravel & Ore being generated; then, only Stone & Sand & Sandstone & Clay would be generated for Ground Blocks.
