Something I realised a while back was that changing the biome setting to specific biomes rather than all biomes doesn't actually create worlds with just that biome, so I decided to investigate.
The first thing to know is that there is a bug when using presets, or recreating a world, where any biome setting 8 and higher changes to a setting 2 higher (8 ->10, 9->11, etc.)
if you are changing any other settings, change the biome setting last, and manually change the biome using the slider.
Next is the Biome Size and River Size. Each time this setting is increased by 1, the biomes in the world are doubled in size (quadrupled in area).
The sliders are limited to 1 and 8 for the biome size; 1 and 5 for the river size, however these can be changed beyond these numbers using presets. Specifically, any integer can be used, including negative numbers (which create really small biomes, but also creates so many rivers that the world is basically a whole bunch of islands!)

All biomes listed in description will include their biome id's (different to the customised biome setting numbers)
-1 - All
This is the default setting, and does not change the way the biomes are spawned.
Biomes
-all biomes spawn
0 - Ocean
Endless ocean world with the occasional Ocean Monument
No or very few islands generate unless the terrain settings are changed, so if only the biome setting is changed, this world is unsurvivable.
Biomes
-Ocean (0)
-Deep Ocean (24) with Ocean Monuments
1 - Plains

With lots of wood and animals, this is an easy world to survive in.

-Sunflower Plains (129)
-Forest (4)
-Forest Hills (18)
-Flower Forest (132)

Biomes
- Mushroom Island (14)

It creates a world of the selected biome as well as its mutations or "sub-biomes". So Oceans have islands (Plains and Forest variations), Ice Plains will have Ice Spikes and Ice Mountains, Plains will have Forests (more like a copse), etc.
