When I play Minecraft, I often world-jump - meaning that I get bored of the world I'm in because it has everything in a small space. I really want a world I can stay in and continually expand my influence for a very long time.
To achieve this, I want a wild terrain generator; fantasy styled with floating islands, but not too drastic that a NASA computer would be necessary. I also want ores to spawn very deep below the ground and be as rare as possible - to make up for that, the veins would have to be so big that you would have to go through a couple of Iron Pickaxes to run them dry. I believe this might be achievable by making the world height... well, higher. Is this possible?

I experimented with ore generation but it's quite limited because you can't go below 1 attempt per chunk of spawning an ore (that's a lot of attempts!), so if you want large "veins" (actually blobs of a few dozens ore blocks) to generate you'll find them everywhere. The only way to spawn less ore is to reduce the number of attempts to 1, to reduce the vein size to 1-6 and to make them spawn at height 0-255, but then you'll be lucky to find a few ore blocks.
Ore generation is tied to chunks? Ugh, that's terrible. What settings would you recommend to try? I like the 0-255 and one spawn try, but what vein size would you recommend?

There is a mod in included in the Technic pack (Tekkit and Tekkit Lite being two of the most notable mods they maintain) that is called "The Big Dig." I was just reading the description to day and it said "extremely rich ore veins."
I created a world with amplified terrain, increased coal and iron, but put diamonds only above y = 192, so I had to find REALLY high mountains to get diamonds! I also increased biome size to 8, so the biomes were HUGE (I had to travel 4000 blocks across ocean from an island to reach the extreme hills biome.)

I used MattTheTubaGuy as the seed.
here are some screenshots:
You spawn on an island with a couple of trees:
Here is the main island with cloud height forest hills half a thousand blocks away.
here is the extreme hills region 4000 blocks away from the spawn island. The hills are really high!
Yes, you read that right, I am standing at y=246!
you can always create a random world. Good luck finding an extreme hills biome, you might need to travel 10,000 blocks in the nether to get to one!
Hope this helps:)
