I want to create an infinite desert with the new customized terrain option, but i end up with lot's of rivers. i want it to spawn no rivers in the world.
I don't think that's possible. BUT, you could lower the sea level so that it's just a patch of dirt. It's not pretty, but if you don't want any water, it's better than nothing.

I think the "river size" and "water lake rarity" settings must be broken. I've tried them both at 1, 50, 100, and even manually editing the preset to be 0, all using the same seed and there seems to be very little variation. Water still generates everywhere. I think there's still a few bugs in the system that Mojang needs to work out. Until then, DerpBoy's suggestion seems the best compromise. And hey, it seems that having a little dirt still causes some random oaks to grow. Might still be a pretty fun survival challenge.

"River size" should really be called "river frequency", as noted in the Wiki:
Increases/decreases the size and frequency of rivers. So while you get only slightly bigger rivers by changing this 2 points, you also get around 3x as many rivers. At 1, it's a marshland of rivers everywhere. At 5, you have large stretches of no water.
As for ponds, note that any terrain that goes below sea level is automatically flooded; actual water lakes are those small (around 10 blocks) pools you find mainly in flat biomes or underground. That is, here is the same world with default settings and river size set to 5 and water lake rarity to 100; note the absence of the 5 small pools seen to the left of the first screenshot; the lake to the lower center is an area that is below sea level:
Default world:
River size set to 5 and water lake rarity set to 100:
(it's also interesting to note the lava lake in the second screenshot, even though I didn't change their frequency; this is because a single random number generator is used for all chunk features and changing one will affect everything generated afterwards, though the frequency stays the same)
As for the OP, a good compromise would be lowering sea level and setting the river size to 5 and turning off water lakes (though this is unnecessary for deserts as only Desert M has water lakes).
I found out that even if the slider doesn't go above 5, you can manually edit a larger number in the presets menu and the game will accept it, making rivers much rarer. I don't know if there is a maximum but I set it at 10 and rivers don't show up too often and seem a little larger, more river-like; this should work like biome size i.e. ever +1 doubles the distance between each river. Maybe setting much higher values will make them so rare you'll never find one but I never gave it a try.

Sorry, my dear, but I don't give a snickerdoodle.
Spoiler alert!
Praise be to Spode.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Maybe set the sea level to low if this doesent work
tell majong
Once I wanted to make just with lakes no rives I reduced the sea level and it worked!
Maybe because I took the 1.8.7 update alot of bugs were fixed
