I have found a seed with a stronghold on the surface do what u want with it idc.
seed: "2866221966480972903"
The middle of the stone block surface is 452, 63, -1452.
The stronghold exists in the same location in 1.13.2 through 1.16.2.
It is not exposed to the surface in 1.13.2.
It IS exposed in 1.14.2 through 1.16.2.
If you stand beside the south west corner facing north and dig down and forward you will be able to step into the stairwell without breaking any stones.

This is a really cool find, I don't think I've ever seen this happen in all the years I've played.
The Seed "Dossier" was quite famous in Releases prior to 1.7.2.
In 1.6.4 it spawns you on a large sand only island next to a plains island with a village that has a library and eight fields.
You will have to search for trees. (Two are available)
Just off the shore of the village island is a stronghold end portal room disconnected from the rest of the stronghold with its roof above sea level.

That's pretty cool, thanks for sharing this seed. I'm guessing 1.7.2. messed it up which is a shame, but it was probably inevitable to happen eventually.

The biome generation routines changed between 1.6.4 and 1.7.2 (which was called The Update that Changed the World) so seeds produce different biome configurations after 1.6.4.

Here's the amidst map for '2866221966480972903'. Stronghold highlighted near top of map. Thanks for sharing, I plan to explore this world this evening.
I've just begun exploring this seed; here's a couple more noteworthy features:
- There's a shipwreck a very short distance to the NW of spawn. The shipwreck is in very shallow water making it easy for the newly spawned player to salvage. Emeralds, iron and treasure map to be found. Buried treasure is not far away either, yielding more emeralds and iron plus a bit of cooked fish. Better tools and immediate food needs met. Nice.
- There's a village within viewing distance of the surface stronghold. It's a decent sized village and it's close but not too close proximity will make it a very useful resource while exploring the stronghold. Put those newly acquired emeralds to use. Have yet to discover whether the stronghold undermines the village.

Nice, I knew of the village and shipwreck but not the treasure. Cool find!
Wow, you sure took the time to excavate that so neatly.
Thanks, but.... how else are you going to excavate a stronghold? Dynamite? Waste of time for removing anything but dirt/sand/sandstone and even then it leaves a messy terrain that is difficult to navigate.
A stepped pit allows for quick access in and out of the digging area. As the pit gets bigger, conversion to a sheer walled pit with one or more staircases/ladders/scaffolding become more efficient.
Current progress. Note, I've expanded largely to the N and E. Also note portal room is fully exposed. Exploring underground suggests at least a medium sized stronghold. The stronghold spans all the way to bedrock; lowest level I've explored so far has a floor at Y=5.
Will continue to dig as a stepped pit for a few days more at least.

So, how would >you< do it?
I wouldn't. Excavating and quarry mining aren't fun for me, I know my way around a maze.
If you found the shipwreck how did you not find the treasure? There's a treasure map in the shipwreck........
The treasure room is buried and largely destroyed, I would not find it by chance without going into spectator mode or digging around a lot. Again, I don't excavate.

It's a large stronghold. The lower wing to the right of the main intersection is the bulk of it and it's too big to dig out like that.
The portion of the ship with the treasure map chest is well intact though the room itself is filled with sand blocks. I think I dug out a grand total of about 20 blocks to reveal the chest. It's quite an exaggeration to call it an excavation; you'll do much more digging to get your first dozen iron ore blocks.

I was going to call it a large stronghold but didn't want to over commit, (I've seen a few really BIG strongholds), until I had explored all of it. A large stronghold will take time to unearth for sure but it is very doable. The last large stronghold I unearthed was under mesa terrain with the surface at Y=90, meaning a third more material to remove. This one seems almost a dawdle with surface at Y=63. Having buildings appear just under the surface is also very motivating.

Tastes vary, I will say your work looks pretty.
Also, there is a (single-building?) ocean ruin just a bit further out from the shipwreck with some decent loot. Sadly I had recreated my survival world from a creative world in peaceful and the difficulty copied, so I lost the Drowned.

Careful, there's a ravine running under the staircase....
And that's the portal room on the left.
