This is a 1.14.4 seed that spawns you right next to the top of a chasm in a plains! Nearby there are also lots of goodies which you can see from the preview!
Ravines open to the surface used to be considerably more common (IMHO) than they are now.
Nice find.
The bottom of the ravine is at Y=35.
There are several entrances to cave systems in it.
There are no dangerous weapons. There are only dangerous people. R.A. Heinlein
If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.

The only changes to world generation that might have affected the number of surface ravines since they were added back in Beta 1.8 is changes to the average ground level; the only changes to ravines themselves since then have been their positions in 1.7 and 1.13 (as mentioned here I decompiled 1.14.4 with the help of the recently released obfuscation maps and everything was the same as always, with the only differences since 1.6.4 being the "chance" changing from Random.nextInt(50) == 0 to Random.nextFloat() < 0.02 in 1.13, which give the same chance but pull different bits from the RNG. 1.7 changed the RNG sequence by extending the "noise map" that varies the width of ravines with height to produce the ledges in the walls from 128 to 256, presumably due to terrain now able to go that high even if ravines themselves don't take advantage of it (similar to how dungeons are rarer since 1.7 due to their range being doubled from 128 to 256 even though caves and most terrain don't make use of it).

Thanks! I've seen quite a few seeds with chasms in nearby biomes, but it's been a while since I've found one that was literally at the footsteps of the spawn point.
I knew TheMasterCaver would know for sure. And knew that my statement would trigger a post from him.
My comment was not based on established fact just my own impressions.
However, I tend to spend a lot of my time in worlds with spawn on small islands.
(A left over from the fad of starting on one tree survival islands.)
If you do a search you will find quite a few threads here in Seeds about multiple ravines near spawn or villages split by a ravine.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
