So Hoppers came out, they can pull items automatically from a chest into what the player wants. However they can't pull from the side of a chest, because they can only pull from the bottom of a chest.
A work around I came up with was to put a Minecart with Hopper into the chest below the chest you want to pull from. This uses a long standing bug with carts being able to go into blocks.

It's a good application, but I've never been a huge fan of using bugs/glitches. They get fixed and all the hard work you may have put into exploiting the bug is gone.

This bug has been in Minecraft for so long I figured it was safe enough to use for a work around until another method (preferably officially added) is out there.
