So this humble thread comes to you because i am curious about several command block capabilities. Without further ado:
(all questions should apply to minecraft 1.8)
Can command blocks test for items with specific names?
hypothetical: Lets say i have a sword named excalibur. The player in an adventure map obtains this in a chest. The item itself is an enchanted iron sword that has been renamed using an anvil to be called excalibur. So lets say i have a button that the player must click while holding this sword. This button will supposedly upgrade the excalibur, but only the excalibur. Would it be possible for the command block to be able to detect whether or not this is the real excalibur (i would give it a color so the player cannot create their own) rather than a fake excalibur?
Can a command block test for entities with specific names?
Hypothetical: So if i have a monster spawner that spawns a creeper renamed "john". Could i set up a command block that looks for creepers named john and emits particles around them?
Can command blocks check for specific commands in chat, then upon hearing them activate some sort of effect.
EX: typing "strength" into chat and gaining a strength 1 debuff.
I also have a couple general questions
Will potions that are set to run forever, accidentally run out due to something else?
EX: i give a player a potion that gives them fire resistance for 99999999999 units of time. (I cant remember if mcedit uses ticks, or seconds in sethblings modify potions filter). Unless the player drinks milk, will they keep the potion effect over 999999999 units of time while continueing to play. Are there any bugs that might make this not work, ex: logging out and logging back in deleting the potion effect, or something like that.
