I've googled and searched these forums without result, help would be appreciated.
I'm working on a map with my friend and it uses a /tp @p command in a command block and it works perfectly, except for the direction the player is facing. How do I get that?

Can you post the command you are using?
Otherwise, here is the usage.
/tp @p <x> <y> <z> <rotx> <roty>
Here are two functional commands. This one teleports the nearest player to the coordinates 1, 1, 1, with their rotation kept relevant.
/tp @p 1 1 1 ~ ~
Here is an example dealing with relevant coordinates, but you want them to rotate to the 180 degree x-wise.
/tp @p ~ ~ ~ 180 ~
You can make either coordinate/rotation value relevant. So if you have a redstone clock with the command:
/tp @p ~ ~ ~ ~ ~1
You will be rotating ever so slowly in a direction, until you stop the clock.
That's interesting and does help a fair bit with getting people to look in the same direction but is there no way I can get their view in the same direction after teleportation no matter where they were facing before.

how can is set a spawn point underground and facing a certain direction? I made an underground base at level 6 and have set world spawn there multiple times, yet it still makes me spawn at the surface.

You have to be using the latest snapshots for 1.8.

If you don't know ~ means relative for instants if you had
/tp @a ~ ~1 ~ you
would teleport them up one block
so:
/tp @a ~ ~ ~ 180 ~ it would make them look North. So if you had:
/tp @a ~ ~ ~ 0 ~ they would face South.
You can specify direction you look, when teleport:
That's it.Somehow it says me error for input string: ""
using your commands (I'm in 1.9.4)
