ok forgive me for being ignorant.. but isnt this a glorified lever? ... i know there must be a use for it so could someone please elaborate? thanks
It is, in fact, a giant lever. Which is exactly why it is so useful. T flipflops let you use any input, from anywhere, to change the output. The lever limits you to reachable distances, and must be manually manipulated.
Some examples of t flipflops I design and use in my world are for: opening and closing airlock entrance at my main area, storage cart depots, counters, super long delays (old/don't use anymore)
I could use a lever for every use here, but it would slow, annoying to do often, and require constant interaction.

notch why u do diz yo so mean i mean look at it it so sad T~T
EDITING OP WITH PICTURES FROM THREAD:
It's a nice design and works perfectly and is the most compact redstone T flip-flop however it is not the most compact T flip-flop that belongs to the mechanical T flip-flop shown below.
This design is 5*3*1.
liar.
the button adds one dimension, so now its 5*4*1
AND how did you power the rails? (underground power) that means
this is actually a 5*4*3.
Just No. The button is the input, therefore it doesn't count. It could be a redstone wire. The rails are powered by the detector rail under the minecart. Please Think before you accuse people of lying.
The design is 5x3x1.
Exactly. Unfortunately, my mechanical T Flip-Flop no longer works since the patch that removed glitch boosters.
I was quite happy with the design, but Notch broke it one or two patches after I posted it :sad.gif:

Support the Allocator! Find my inventions such as my pressure plate removal detector on the About Me page of my profile.
I'm still looking for more feedback on my configurable Redstone Gate mod. All gates and common circuits (such as e.g. clocks, edge detectors, latches and Flip-Flops) in a single block.
this is a really nice t-flip flop. i use if often for several redstone devices, mainly for doors and entrances where there is only one button on both sides of the door that will open and close the door.
oh thankyou, well im going to have to use this in a few ideas it's given me.. +1 redstone knowledge for me! yay.. that makes 3 :blink.gif:

Yes, it is.
But it's something that is small, useful, and appeals to the average minecrafter- so it's not too bad :biggrin.gif:
Well, given the input can go in from above or below as well, the size is valid.
Shroom-redstone
torch-redtorch
cobble-solid block
chest-piston
furnace-cart on buttontrack
Herrumph...Mechanical much...I believe we're talking about pure redstone.

x-) thank you for posting this on the forums
1x3x4 (1x3x5 including the lever). Works with any input, just need a single item in one of the hoppers.
