I'm playing a survival world and would really like to put an elevator in the tower I'm building, but I don't have nearly enough slimeballs to build an elevator the conventional way. Does anybody know of a good way to build an elevator with just regular pistons? I have resources to make PLENTY of those.
What your looking for is a spiral elevator that pushes you up stairs with regular pistons. You really should try to be more resourceful though. I typed "minecraft regular piston elevator" into youtube and this was the first result:
Obviously this is a very old video, but the concept hasn't changed. Not sure how well it works anymore, but that is the only design I'm aware of that doesn't use sticky pistons. Just use a water/vine break to get back down. If you want a high speed two way elevator, you need to invest in a slime farm.
I would recommend building one in creative first and then you will know what you need for survival. but i have made one with 2 regular pistons and sand. basicly you stand on a sand block get pushed up then when that piston falls the 2nd piston shoves another sand block under, when piston 2 retracks again a pile of sand ontop falls down 1 and relpaces it to raise up agian. then you have to design a circuit that loops the desired number of levels to raise limited to 12-13. then i used 12 pistons to slide my stack of sand back over to the starting position. that can give you 3-4 floors.
to get to desired floor i suggest using a set of switches and and gates so based on the positon of the switches will determin how many cycles the 1st and 2nd pistons go through to reach your desired floor. thats just for going up. its possible do go down but i usally just jump...
Whatever happened to minecart elevators? or did they fix those?
No, they're still around. Thing is, it's always more fun to make a hugely complicated machine to perform a simple task than holding right click and getting to the top that way.

well, its confusing to use, I hope they never fix that though!

Back in my days we didn't have these fancy shmancy "Minecraft" and "computers"! We only had LEGOS, and how did we use them? Put them in front of someone's door and let them step on them *chuckle* good times.
a good and cheap way is using water buckets, if you don't want to use plain ol' water, then I don't really have anyway of doing it.

Well the cheapest out of ALL possible methods for ascending vertically is placing a single vine on the top and waiting for it to grow. Two iron for shears, one vine. Bam.
Help is appreciated!
though you will use alot of redstone/repeaters but we all have tons of it in our survivals

I'll post a short tutorial if you'd like. It uses just 4 pistons, half blocks and fence gates, and of course, redstone.
A quick tutorial would be great!
I can't quite figure this one out. Does it go up just one floor? I'm not seeing from your pictures how all the components fit together.
Is this minecraft thing still going? damn.

Ehh...what? Show us one without any Redstone whatsoever.
You can make water elevators with no redstone but imho they suck... basically a huge inefficient ladder
I guess I don't count those as elevators...typically an elevator is something that requires no more interaction that the press of a button.
F = Fence Gate
H = Half block
P = Piston
G = Ground

P1 and P3 must push at the opposite time as P2 and P4 by making a clock, set to one tic. Tis'll all be in my new thread.
