It's not just an issue of triggering the top middle piston to lift, it's doing it and hiding the circuit leading to it. I'm trying to make a gate, I did it with 2 long 2 high, and just went around the sides to trigger the top one and hid them easily. But the actual gate needs to be 3 long.
It looks like this:
= pistons
gate blocks
There is a castle wall surrounding the whole thing, and when opened, it pushes the 3 tall gate 2 blocks up, allowing passage, I use a pulse so the pistons lower immediately afterwards, leaving a 2 high space to walk through.
This is the front before I lift the gate, the lift curcuit's down below:
This is after I lift it, but u can see I had to run the redstone in the middle of the back of the gate to get the top middle piston to lift and lower correctly in conjunction with the piston right below it:
This is the backside of the gate so u can see how I ran the redstone there, Yes I'm using the wireless mod to make it more compact, but I did it without wireless before hand in an open area to make sure it all worked before installing it in the gate:
And here's a quick video to show you in more detail:
Only I can't get thet middle top piston to lift and retract and still be able to hide the freakin redstone leading to it.
I've watched a dozen tutorials and spent all day on this with no luck, maybe it's just impossible :sad.gif:.
Added pictures and video to help explain the problem. I need to hide the redstone in the back of the gate, it just needs to be one block higher or work from below...
just move the pistons down 1 block and have them push a stone which pushes the fence. it's not like the pistons will be able to lower the gate without help from above. going i block down should give you some space to work with under the floor

I tried that with a sticky piston on the tops as well, but the top pistons still leave behind the top block, which is a bug I believe posted on the wiki. Unless there IS a way to get a 2 high stack of pistons to retract along with a third block of dirt or stone across the top.

Sticky pistons only 'stick' when retracting. Any other time they are just like a regular block and moving them around will not move any block adjacent to them.
To retract the floating block send a pulse to the top piston after you have retracted the pistons back to their start position. With just 2 stickies it can almost be one fluid motion.
On extension: Bottom extends -> top extends -> block on top is now 2 higher than it started.
On retraction: Top piston retracts -> top block is now one lower than its highest point -> bottom piston retracts (pistons are now at their start location) -> top piston extend + retract -> top block is now back to its start position.
To do your extension one lower and solve your powering the middle position try using torches instead of repeaters.

Now I mostly use redstone on creative.
